Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I
originally chose this song several weeks ago as a reference to the fact that
beginning tomorrow, I would be out of town for a week. It acquired added
meaning as it would indicate an end to all of the massive scanning I've done for
the past three weeks. (Have I ever mentioned that I prefer
scrubbing toilets to scanning images??) But then I just thought it was
funny on its own. Of course, y'all know that I'm just kidding; I'm really
SUCH a Sweetie-Pie!
APOLOGETIC NOTE TO ALL OF OUR RECENT NEWBIES AND OTHER GENTLE SOULS IN OUR MIDST: Yes, it's Sad But True; I have a warped sense of humor.....
BONUS #1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0YrXjeRSoE - No More Mr. Nice Guy - Alice Cooper - no video
BONUS #2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAfeCViJEK0 - No More Mr. Nice Guy - Megadeth - this video is funny if quite disturbing, in a Megadeth-y sort of way...
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_More_Mr._Nice_Guy_%28song%29:
"No More Mr Nice Guy" is a single by the hard rock group Alice Cooper, taken from the 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies. The single reached #25 on the US charts and #10 on the UK charts, and helped Billion Dollar Babies to reach #1 in both the UK and the US. Alice Cooper and Michael Bruce wrote the song.
Cooper wrote the song about the reactions of his mother's Church group about Cooper's stage performances and the characters he played onstage.[1]
Heavy metal group Megadeth did a cover of the song for the 1989 film Shocker. The song was also covered by Pat Boone for the cover album In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy. Czech singer Aleš Brichta recorded this song with the Czech lyrics under the title "Couvnou, pane Bourák" for his second solo album "Ráno ve dveřích armády spásy" in 1996.
The song was re-recorded by Alice Cooper and will be featured in the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.[2]

From
Me
('65) of IL - 08/06/10 - "Hang in there...":
If all goes well (that is, according to Plan "A"), I will be going to Southeast Missouri to attend back-to-back family reunions (Lewis and Mason families - good old Virginia names, n'est pas?) from Sunday, August 8 to Sunday, August 15. Not only will I not be able to create any Newsletters, I will not have internet access at all, so as one of our favorite old teachers was fond of saying, "Let's keep it down to a dull roar."
Thanks!
TODAY IN WWII:
August 07, 1940 -
Alsace Lorraine was annexed by the Third Reich. August 07, 1942 - The Battle of Guadalcanal began – United States Marines initiated the first American offensive in the Pacific during World War II with landings on Guadalcanal and Tulagi in the Solomon Islands. |
TODAY IN 1965:
Saturday, August 07, 1965 - The infamous first party between Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters and motorcycle gang the Hells Angels took place at Kesey's estate in La Honda, California introducing psychedelics to the gang world and forever linking the hippie movement to the Hell's Angels. |

John
Llewellyn - Nomination for Famous Marine page.":
Hi, Carol:
![]() |
Please
find a photo of then Sergeant John Llewellyn USMC circa 1957 when he was
serving in the 97th Rifle Company in Newport News, VA. He had returned
from the Korean War with two rows of combat ribbons, and began college,
and was later commissioned in the USMC. He completed his service to the
Corps as a Captain, when his civilian employer NASA required their
employees to leave the various reserve programs during the Vietnam War. John retired from NASA. He served in various capacities at the Space Center in Houston and Cape Canaveral and when the space program was in its infancy, John was stationed on the Canary Islands manning a relay station. He is a true warrior, and recently suffered a stroke, and was transported from San Antonio, TX by helicopter to a hospital in Austin, TX. His condition was grave, and my friend ![]() ![]() |

The small world story is this, John was living in Yorktown and his father paid tuition for him to attend NNHS. His conduct was less than stellar and ![]() John's father then placed him in military school, but he quit and joined the Marines and was shipped to Korea for combat duty. Now, after all these years a Keesee has ministered to this Marine Warrior. A time for healing. Hope you will consider him for your Famous Marine page on the website. TYPHOON Regards, Joe Madagan (57) of FL
WOWZERONI!
What a great story, Joe!

As an
added small world twist, I myself have a Llewellyn line (my 7th
great-grandmother was Martha Llewellyn, who died in Fleet's Bay,
Northumberland Co., VA after 20 Dec 1677 - wife of Robert Jones, Sr.),
so I'm claiming John as my cousin.

Written and recorded by Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier on 04 Feb 1948), 1973
Recorded by
Megadeth,
1989
I used to be such a sweet, sweet thing
Till they got a hold of me
I opened doors for little old ladies
I helped the blind to see
I got no friends 'cause they read the papers
They can't be seen with me
And I'm gettin' real shot down
And I'm feelin' mean
No more Mister Nice Guy
No more Mister Clean
No more Mister Nice Guy
They say he's sick, he's obscene
I got no friends 'cause they read the papers
They can't be seen with me
And I'm feelin' real shot down
And I'm gettin' mean
No more Mister Nice Guy
No more Mister Clean
No more Mister Nice Guy
They say he's sick, he's obscene
My dog bit me on the leg today
My cat clawed my eye
Mom's been thrown out of the social circles
And dad has to hide
I went to church incognito
When everybody rose the Reverend Smithy
He recognized me and punched me in the nose
He said, no more Mister Nice Guy
No more Mister Clean
No more Mister Nice Guy
He said you're sick, you're obscene
