Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   We have still more sad news today.  Margaret Langley Lassiter, mother of Elinor Lassiter Morris of VA and Patsy Lassiter Anders of GA, has passed away in Newport News at the age of 95.

From the Daily Press - 08/07/07:

        Margaret Langley Lassiter

  NEWPORT NEWS - Margaret Langley Lassiter died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007 in St. Francis Nursing Center. She was born Dec. 18, 1911 in Tarboro, N.C. to Nora Spain and L.D. Langley. She grew up in Tarboro and took her first job as pianist for silent movies. In 1929 she married 'Joe' Lassiter who preceded her in death. Just after their honeymoon in 1930 they moved to Newport News. Shortly after their arrival in Newport News, Margaret joined Ivy Memorial Baptist Church where she was active for over 65 years until declining health prevented her attendance. Mrs. Lassiter was the first organist at Ivy Memorial and in subsequent years she was founder and director of the children's choir and director of the adult choir. As the much beloved teacher of the Young Adults class she taught the Bible to hundreds of young adults over many years. Margaret was an inspiration to all who knew her. Margaret's devotion to her church and her Savior were primary in her life. Her sense of humor was always one of her most endearing qualities. All who knew and loved her will miss Margaret. She is survived by her daughter, Elinor L. Morris and husband, Mike of Newport News and daughter, Patsy L. Anders of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Lassiter (Nana) is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Penny Morris, Kevin Morris and wife, Adele, Mark Morris and wife, Diane Beecher and sons, Max and Nicholas, Jason Morris and son, Benjamin Cameron Morris, Corinne Anders and son, Ryan, Jay Anders and wife, Susie, Nicholas and Marissa Anders and their son, Liam. Also surviving are a cousin and loving friend, Mary Frances Grasty of Newport News, one niece, and three nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted noon Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Lilley officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family extends their appreciation to the special caregivers at St. Francis Nursing Center. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shall We Gather at the River

Words and music by Rev. Robert Lowry (1826-1899)

 Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Chorus

Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.

On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.

Chorus

Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.

Chorus

Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.

Chorus
