BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7-E1qTVJgE - Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) - The Offspring, 1998
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Fly_(for_a_White_Guy):
"Beginning with a sample of the quasi-German nonsense phrase "Gunter glieben glauchen globen" from Def Leppard's song "Rock of Ages," chanted as a replacement for the traditional "1, 2, 3, 4" to start the recording, the song ridicules a "wannabe gangsta" (or "wangster") who is immersed in hip-hop culture not because he truly loves it, but because it is trendy, makes him feel tough ("friends say he's tryin' too hard, and he's not quite hip/but in his own mind, he's the - he's the dopest trip") and makes it seem that he can get all the girls ("and all the girlies say I'm pretty fly - for a white guy"). The song openly mocks the middle-class suburban youths who listen to rap music for this reason."

40 YEARS AGO TODAY:
Monday, August 04, 1969 - Vietnam War: At the apartment of French intermediary Jean Sainteny in Paris, U.S. representative Henry Kissinger and North Vietnamese representative Xuan Thuy began secret peace negotiations. They eventually failed as neither side could agree to any terms.
Monday, August 04, 1969 - Musician and singer Max Cavalera (Sepultura and Soulfly) was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

UPDATE ON "THE PROBLEM":
From John Murden ('60) of VA -
08/03/09 - "Reported Attack Site":
Carol,
I am getting a message that NNHS65 is a "reported attack site". Is this part of the issues you have been experiencing? Is someone piggy-backing on the site?
Lots of luck!
John
Yes, John, that is the entire issue!
Some of you are still being blocked from
viewing the site out of safety concerns. Most of y'all are not. Our
server, 00freehost.com also hosts many, many other sites. Six of them are
having malware "issues". Here's the latest from Google:
What happened when Google visited this site?
Of the 419 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 86 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2009-08-03, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2009-07-30.
Surely things will be better soon.....
Thanks, John!

From Ruth Ann Reece Horace ('67) of FL - 08/03/09 - "Missed you":
I have really missed the newsletters. I sure hope the site is up and running soon. My computer won't access it at all.
I left Florida on the 30th with my dear friend, Stacy. She was going to visit her family in Denver and Salt Lake City. I jokingly told her I would hide in her plastic crates and jump out in Denver, so I could come visit my daughter in Colorado Springs. She invited me along, changed her route and dropped me right at Kimmy's door. And wouldn't let me pay for any travel expenses. She said she owes it to me (not), and besides I'm a better navigator than her Labbie dog. I'll be here until the 19th when I fly home to Florida. It is beautiful here and seeing Kimmy (my baby) after so many months is great. Her husband, Chris, is in Afghanistan and she needed the boost.
Hope they get things fixed soon.
Thanks for all you do.
Love ya,
Ruthie
Oh, Ruthie, how
wonderful for you!
That's just fabulous!
Thanks, Lady, I
hope things clear up soon with the cyber censors soon, too! Present conditions
are making me even nutsier than usual!

From Ronni Green
Cristol ('64) of MD - 08/02/09 - "Jimmy
Krikales":
Hi Carol,
I was recently in Newport News visiting my mother and we drove up to the River Room seafood restaurant in Yorktown where Jimmy Krikales is cooking like he did at Nick's for years. The dinner was wonderful and he was very interested when I told him he had been mentioned in one of your newsletters. I promised to send him the edition but can't remember the date you printed the info. Is there some way you can help me out with this? I want to say it was some time in May or June but can't seem to locate it.
Hope all is well with you and thanks again for your wonderful site always full of great news.
Ronni Green Cristol
Oh, WOW - how COOL!
Thanks, Ronni!

Like you, I
would have thought it was back in May, but actually it began with the 4th of
July edition (most appropriate, wouldn't
you say??), and for
several more Newsletters as well. The entire thread is posted on the Nick's
page, but the conversation was featured on five Newsletters:

From Ruth Ann Reece Horace ('67) of FL - 08/03/09 - "Mustard":
Mustard
I Love Mustard. (This is a true
story. If you have children you will probably relate to this father).
As ham sandwiches go, it was
perfection: a thick slab of ham on a fresh bun with crisp lettuce and plenty of
expensive, light brown, Gourmet Mustard.
The corners of my jaw aching in
anticipation, I carried it to the table in our backyard, picked it up with both
hands, but was stopped by my wife suddenly at my side.
Here, hold Johnny (our
six-week-old son) while I get my sandwich,' she said.
I had him balanced between my
left elbow and shoulder and was reaching again for the ham sandwich when I
noticed a streak of mustard on my fingers.
I love mustard.
I had no napkin.
I licked it off.
It was not mustard.
No man ever put a baby down
faster.
It was the first and only time I
have sprinted with my tongue protruding out.
With a washcloth in each hand, I
did the sort of routine shoeshine boys do, only I did it on my
tongue.
Later, after she stopped crying
from laughing so hard, my wife said, "Now you know why they
call that fancy mustard
Poupon.''
EEWWW!
Thanks, Ruthie!

FINALLY:
From ArcaMax Jokes.com - 08/03/09:
Blonde Sheep Winner
There was a blonde who was tired of all the blonde jokes and decided to dye her
hair brown. She then went for a drive in the country and came upon a shepherd
herding his sheep across the road.
She asked the shepherd, "If I guess how many sheep there are here, can I keep
one?"
He replied "Sure!"
Out of the blue, she blurts out, "352!"
He is stunned but keeps his word and allows her to pick out a sheep. She looks
and searches and finally picks out the cutest one.
He looks at her and says, "If I guess what color your hair really is, can I have
my dog back?"

Give it to me
baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly for a white guy
Uno dos tres cuatro cinco cinco ses
You know its kinda hard just to get along today
Our subject isn't cool, but he thinks it anyway
He may not have a clue, and he may not have style
But everything he lacks, well he makes up in denial
So don't deflate, play it straight
You know he really doesn't get it anyway
Gonna play the field, keep it real
For you know a way, for you know a way
So if you don't break, just over compensate
At least you know you can always go on Ricki Lake
The world needs wannabees
Hey, hey, do the brand new thing!
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly for a white guy
He needs some cool tunes, not just any will suffice
But they didn't have Ice Cube so he bought Vanilla Ice
Now cruising in his Pinto, he sees homies as he pass
But if he looks twice, they're gonna kick his lilly ass!
So don't deflate, play it straight
You know he really doesn't get it anyway
Gonna play the field, keep it real
For you know a way, for you know a way
So if you don't break, just over compensate
At least you know you can always go on Ricky Lake
The world loves wannabes
Hey, hey, do the trendy thing!
Now he's getting a tattoo yeah, he's getting ink done
He asks for a 13, but they drew a 31
Friends say he's trying too hard and he's not quite hip
But in his own mind he's the, he's the dopest trick
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly for a white guy
Uno dos tres cuatro cinco cinco ses
So don't deflate, play it straight
You know he really doesn't get it anyway
Gonna play the field, keep it real
For you know a way, for you know a way
So if you don't break, just over compensate
At least you know you can always go on Ricky Lake
The world needs wannabes
The world loves Wannabes
Let's get some more wannabes
Hey, hey, do the brand new thing!
