NEWS FLASH:
From Fred Mays ('60) of VA -
08/02/10, 10:01 AM - "Proud Grandparents":
Carol:
Wow, are we excited! I just got back to the computer last night and have been looking at my email....so backed up. I wanted to
share with you that our daughter, Ansley Mays Trice,
had her first born baby on Saturday, July 25, 2010 at
Riverside Hospital, here in Newport News. His name is
Mays Hunter Trice. Ansley had a great pregnancy
and easy delivery, relatively speaking.
Mays weighed 6
lbs., 4 oz. and is 20 inches long. This is our third
grandchild as Erick, our son, and Tara
have a 6 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. We are
so blessed.
Erick
recently accepted the position as Assistant Basketball
Coach at Christopher
Newport University. He has been Varsity coach
at Menchville High School for several years and
is thrilled with this opportunity. Actually, he will
be part time in the C.N.U. position (at least for now)
as he will continue to teach at Menchville in the
mornings. Our daughter Ansley plans to stay home with
Mays......she is 33 and Winston is 37. Ansley was a 5th
grade teacher and prior to that was a Social Worker,
having a Masters degree in Social Work.
God is Good!
Take care, Ms.
Carol
Fred Mays
Congratulations,
Fred!
Take care - and have fun with your new
grandbaby - and the older ones, too! |

Carol:
I failed to mention to you that there is a new book just released, Images of America, Downtown Newport News. It is an Arcadia book and sells for $21.99. The renown author is William A. Fox. He has written other books and I have one of his best, Always Good Ships, Ships Built by Newport News Shipbuilding. It is a coffee table book with a wealth of information. I purchased it in the 80's and had it autographed at that time. Carol, you would love this new book. It has so much about Newport News High School.....students, teachers, coaches, etc. The book is fantastic. There is a picture of Bill's father, who had the lead in a play (at N.N.H.S) and he is pictured with Ava Gardner, the future movie star. Bill's parents owned a candy store behind Nachman's Department Store. I am honored to have a connection to Bill. We got together as he was nearing his deadline; however, I did go with him to RJ's Restaurant and Sports Pub. He scanned numerous pictures from this restaurant.......really good ones, too. He used a couple of my images and was so kind as to mention me in his acknowledgment. This book may be purchased at Barnes and Noble and Hidenwood Pharmacy and many other places on the Peninsula. Unfortunately, Bill did not
attend N.N.H.S......he went to Warwick High, Class of 1961.....N.N.H.S.
would have appreciated him so much; however, he was greatly appreciated
where he was planted, I am sure. He would love to be on your mailing
list for the newsletter. His email address is: ______________. He
would love to hear from you.....I know this book is going to be a top
seller....just look through it and you must agree.
Thanks again, Fred!

Hi,
Carol: Thought you and the TYPHOON Nation might like to see this image of the statute that greets the visitors to the Naval Aviation Museum, Naval Air Station, Pensacola. "The Spirit of Naval Aviation" is the title of this display. A returning naval aviator giving helpful advise to his fellow aviators is depicted in the image. A wonderful destination for anyone interested in aviation and history. Lots of hands-on displays in the upper tier for the young folk to learn of naval aviation. |

Joseph
I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain
To see for certain what I thought I knew
Far far away, someone was weeping
But the world was sleeping
Any dream will do
Joseph & Children
I wore my coat, with golden lining
Bright colours shining, wonderful and new
And in the east, the dawn was breaking
And the world was waking
Any dream will do
Joseph
A crash of drums, a flash of light
My golden coat flew out of sight
The colours faded into darkness
I was left alone
Joseph & Children
May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
Still hesitating
Any dream will do
Joseph
A crash of drums, a flash of light
My golden coat flew out of sight
The colours faded into darkness
I was left alone
Joseph & Children
May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
Still hesitating
