NEWPORT NEWS - Betty Lee
Sadler, 89, passed away peacefully at The Chesapeake, Wednesday, July 27,
2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry M. Sadler, Jr. They made homes in Newport News, Salem and Richmond, VA. Betty kept up life long friendships with friends from Newport News High School. She loved throwing a party and often celebrated group birthday gatherings with friends and cousins. For years she made it a point to save her Social Security checks to throw a Year 2000 New Year's Eve gathering where she hired buses to drive everyone to a secret destination. |

She was a good cook who rarely
used a recipe, took thousands of photos, hosted many a "tea party for two" for
her grandchildren, and planned fabulous Christmases for the family.
She was predeceased by two sons, Mark Steven Sadler and William Patrick Sadler. She is survived by a son, Henry M. Sadler, III (Donna); two daughters, Carol Sadler Contarino (Joseph) and Karen Kay Sadler; five grandchildren, Sara Sheets, Shelby Keys (Kris), Kristin Musolino (Daniel), Kendall Sadler, and Joseph Contarino IV; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Guidry, and Nicholas Sheets. A private family service will
be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a
charity of your choice. Please leave condolences at

Henry, Sorry to hear of your mother and brother's passing.
about your loss. My mother still lives at the end of Post
Street. I think she and Johnny Hogge are the only ones left
in the old neighborhood from when we lived there. - Tommy Powell, Poquoson, Virginia Dear Henry, Carol, and Karen, I was saddened to read of your mother's passing in today's newspaper. She and your father were favorites of mine, always so caring and encouraging. In fact, I owe much of my banking career to your dad's early mentoring and example. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this time as I pray for God's sustaining grace for each of you and your family. - Gordon Gentry, Newport News, Virginia

Lead, Kindly Light
Lyrics by John Henry Newman, 1833
Music by John B. Dykes, 1865
Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.
I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou
Shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!
So long Thy power hath blessed me, sure it will,
Will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile!
Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Savior, lead me home in childlike faith,
Home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life.
