SEABROOK, TEXAS - Our beloved
Valerie Macpherson Ferguson departed this life on Friday, July 24, 2009. Valerie was born to Edward and Jessie Macpherson in Newport News, Va., on March 20, 1930. When she was 12 years old, she was honored to have christened the Navy's LST 399, in the Newport News Shipyard in memory of her father. After graduating from
Newport News High School and then from Longwood College, Valerie accepted a
position with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics at Langley
Field, where she met her future husband, Richard. When Richard was
transferred to the Manned Spacecraft Center, which later became the Johnson
Space Center, Valerie moved from her much-loved home state of Virginia to
Texas, where she quickly became a proud Texan, as she established a loving
home for her family, as well as an active life contributing to community and
country. |

Valerie was a member of the Bay Area Republican Women's Club, which selected her as Woman of the Year in 2004. She was also a member of the Bay Area Military Officers' Wives Club, the Purple Hat Club, as well as numerous other clubs, especially those associated with bridge. Valerie's greatest joy in life, however, was caring for her family. The love she gave to us will live on in our hearts forever.
Valerie is survived by
Richard, her husband of 58 years; her children, Sharon, Richard Jr., and
Edward; her grandson, Richard Ryan;, and her sister, Alexandra McPherson.
Beside family members, Valerie will be missed by her many friends, whose
lives she touched throughout her life. |
