Several of Jim Watson's accomplishments on the front nine were: --serving his country in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS WASATCH during World War II; --retiring as assistant foreman of the composing room at The Daily Press, Inc. with over 35 years of service; --winning numerous golf trophies beginning with the Newport News High School golf team, continuing in the Peninsula Industrial Golf League, and several Daily Press and local country club tournaments. Jim Watson approached the back nine with grace and courage. The highlights included seven grand-children and eight great-grand-children. His grand-children, James F. Watson III of Arlington, Va., Jerry R. Watson of Spotsylvania, Va., Jennifer Mackey Stewart of Round Rock, Tx., Shannon Mackey of Wilton, Iowa, Peter Mackey of Charlottesville, Va., Matthew Watson of Charleston, S.C., and Stephanie Watson Hay of Louisville, Kentucky, are proud to call him Grand-Daddy. His eight great grand-children, Julia and Alistair Watson of Arlington, Va.; Tristan and Reeve Watson of Spotsylvania, Va.; Lorelei and Annabel Stewart of Round Rock, Tx.; Melodie Watson of Charleston, S. C., and Ashley Mackey of Charlottesville, Va. are proud to call him Great Grand-Daddy. Applauding Jim Watson from the gallery are his sister, Carrie Louise Clemm of Newport News, Va., a nephew Randolph Clemm of Newport News, Va., and nieces Judith Ann Watson and Kathy Arrington, both of Newport News, Va. On Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the age of 93, James F. Watson was spotted on the 19th hole. With a satisfied smile on his face, he and St. Peter were signing up for their tee time. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks. Published in the Daily Press on July 26, 2013.
