   We have another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter this Friday morning.    Jim Watson, Class of 1938, passed away in Hampton on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the age of 93.

HAMPTON, VA - A Tribute to a Kind Dad and an Excellent Golfer: James Francis Watson teed up for the first hole on March 4, 1920.

His constant companion and wife of 71 years, Ethel Lee Watson, has been by his side through the roughs and the fairways.

Of his many aces, the three of which he was most proud are his son, James F. Watson, Jr. of Seaford, Va.; his daughter Bonnie Watson Mackey of Dickinson, Tx., and his son, William Charles Watson, of Bradenton, Florida.

Several of Jim Watson's accomplishments on the front nine were: --serving his country in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS WASATCH during World War II; --retiring as assistant foreman of the composing room at The Daily Press, Inc. with over 35 years of service; --winning numerous golf trophies beginning with the Newport News High School golf team, continuing in the Peninsula Industrial Golf League, and several Daily Press and local country club tournaments.

Jim Watson approached the back nine with grace and courage. The highlights included seven grand-children and eight great-grand-children. His grand-children, James F. Watson III of Arlington, Va., Jerry R. Watson of Spotsylvania, Va., Jennifer Mackey Stewart of Round Rock, Tx., Shannon Mackey of Wilton, Iowa, Peter Mackey of Charlottesville, Va., Matthew Watson of Charleston, S.C., and Stephanie Watson Hay of Louisville, Kentucky, are proud to call him Grand-Daddy.

His eight great grand-children, Julia and Alistair Watson of Arlington, Va.; Tristan and Reeve Watson of Spotsylvania, Va.; Lorelei and Annabel Stewart of Round Rock, Tx.; Melodie Watson of Charleston, S. C., and Ashley Mackey of Charlottesville, Va. are proud to call him Great Grand-Daddy.

Applauding Jim Watson from the gallery are his sister, Carrie Louise Clemm of Newport News, Va., a nephew Randolph Clemm of Newport News, Va., and nieces Judith Ann Watson and Kathy Arrington, both of Newport News, Va.
