“The foremost quality of our pioneers was faith. With faith in God, they did what every pioneer does—they stepped forward into the unknown: a new religion, a new land, a new way of doing things. With faith in their leaders and in one another, they stood fast against formidable opposition. When their leader said, 'This is the right place,' they trusted, and they stayed. When other leaders said, 'Do it this way,' they followed in faith.” - Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, “Following the Pioneers,” Ensign, Nov. 1997, p. 72 (b. 12 Aug 1932) |

REUNION ALERTS:
From Dave Arnold
('65) of VA - 05/11/10 - "Class of 1965's 45-Year Reunion":
The NNHS Class of 1965 will hold its 45-Year Reunion on Friday and Saturday, October 15 and 16, 2010 - which is OPEN to all classes!
Friday evening we will meet at R.J.'s Restaurant and Sports Bar. The only cost will be what you choose to eat and drink. The company will be priceless.
Saturday
will be spent at Newport News Park. We've reserved a group shelter that can seat
150 people with sufficient cover to take care of any weather concerns. If you
made it to the 55th Birthday Party you'll recall it was held at the Park in one
of the smaller shelters. The facility we're using this time is a new addition
and will give us lots of flexibility to meet and reminisce. The cost of this
event is $15.00 per person through August 31, 2010. After that date the cost
will be $20.00 per person. The charge for Saturday will cover your food and
beverages.

I decided to actually work on the site itself and do some long overdue scanning. As a result, these pages are either entirely new or newly fleshed-out with images:

Thanks again,
Gorgeous!
NOTE: I had planned to finish several more sections, but this is taking even longer (and making me even nutzier!) than I had anticipated, so I'll be working on this for the next few days.
Hey Carol,
I just took a look at the announcement for the Tailgate Party and I
followed the link to the SPD page. I noticed that one brother was
not on the site, George Herndon class of '67.
Thanks,

FINALLY: |
Aerospace Industry My job is in the Aerospace Industry, and it's always been a challenge to explain just what kind of work I do. At one gathering, I tried several unsuccessful attempted explanations before deciding to be as generic as possible. When the subject came up while I was talking with a group of guys, I replied simply, "Defense Contractor." The men nodded, and as the conversation went on, I silently declared victory to myself. Then, one of them turned to me and asked, "So, what do you put up mainly? Chain-link?" |

"This hymn text was written by William Clayton, who was inspired by the existing hymn 'All Is Well' and his experiences traveling to Utah as one of the Mormon Pioneers. They, the early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gathered from around the world and walked across the American plains to find a new home in the West where they could live their religion without persecution. They settled and colonized much of what is now the state of Utah and although the bitter persecution of the past has, for the most part, been replaced with understanding and respect, for members of the Church throughout the world the hymn 'Come, Come Ye Saints' continues to represent their heritage of faith and sacrifice."
