Anne New Jones Gentry Newport News High School Class of June 1944 |
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
We have even more sad news to impart.
Anne Jones Gentry,
Class of June 1944, passed away in Virginia Beach
on Monday, July 21, 2014 less than three weeks following her 88th birthday.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Anne Jones Gentry, 88, died Monday, July 21, 2014. She was born in Newport News, Virginia, the daughter of Sarah Anne Crabill Jones and Thomas Barlow Jones. Her husband of 61 years, Irvin Wyatt Gentry, Jr., preceded her in death. She graduated from Newport News High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Anne was a member of Galilee Church for 54 years. She served on the vestry and as chairman of the altar guild. She was, also, active for many years with the Women of Galilee and the Episcopal Church Women. |

She is survived by her three children, Anne Gentry Smith and husband, Louis, of Newport News, James Wyatt Gentry and wife, Margaret, and Robert Crabill Gentry of Virginia Beach and six grandchildren, Matthew Spencer Smith, Catherine Gentry Rauschenberg, Sarah Smith Moreland, Margaret St. John Gentry, Cary McCormick Gentry and Rebecca Jones Gentry and one great grandchild, Tyler Carl Rauschenberg. The family would like to thank Always Best Care for their professional and loving care given to our mother. A memorial service will be conducted by The Reverend Andrew D. Buchanan at Galilee Church, Saturday, July 26, at 11:30 am. A reception will follow in Tucker Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Galilee Church, 3928 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or Lynnhaven River Now, 1608 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. H.D. Dear Gentry family,
Connie and I are traveling out of country but we read today the sad news of Anne' s passing. What a great lady! We send you our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies for your loss. Very sorry we cannot be with you on Saturday to celebrate Anne's life, which was so well lived. We will always remember how much she meant to our experience of Virginia Beach and, in particular, her wonderful efforts on behalf of Galilee Church. With love, Connie and Page
