NEWPORT NEWS - Helen Sarfan
Soefer passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 18, 2007. She was the widow of
Robert J. Soefer, her loving husband of over 60 years. Helen was born in
Newport News to Leon and Rose Mirmelstein Sarfan. Her parents; her sister,

Sholom Temple and in the local Jewish community. She was a member of the
Rodef Sholom Temple Sisterhood, Hadassah, and the National Council of Jewish

From Mimi Weger Green (February 1940) of VA - 07/19/07 - "Helen Sarfan Soefer":
Dear Carol,
Helen Soefer and I grew up together and graduated from
NNHS in the class of February, 1940. We were close
friends, and I shall miss her very much.
In response to your query, her sister, Rita, IS the mother of
David Block (Valedictorian of the Class of 1964 - of DC).
Thanks for writing me. I must admit I don't read your daily report from start to
finish, with all the websites, etc., but I do skim through and try to keep in
touch with people I know and with my children's friends. (My children are
Ronni Green Cristol, class of l964 (of MD), and
Ricki Green Gray, class of l968.) I love to read about
the old sections and businesses of Newport
News. I was born and raised here, and still love it.
Keep up your wonderful work, and I hope your health and wellbeing have improved.
Fondly,
Mimi Green (Miriam Green, NNHS class of February 1940. (We used to have
graduations in February and June when I was in high school, many many years
ago.)
Thank you so much, Mimi. I knew you were the right person to ask. My sincerest condolences on the loss of your good friend.
Y'all take good care of each other! TYPHOONS FOREVER! We'll Always Have Buckroe!
Love to all, Carol
