Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

There is sad news to report today. Betsy _____ Familant, mother of Louis Familant ('59) of VA and David Familant of PA, passed away in Newport News on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the age of 94. May her memory be for a blessing always.

NEWPORT NEWS - Betsy Familant, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, she was a Peninsula resident since 1940.

Betsy was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Temple Beth El of Williamsburg, Va., Newport News Jewish Community Center, Adath Jeshurun Ladies Auxiliary, and a long time President of the Newport News JCC Seniors. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Edward Familant and is survived by her sons, Louis M. of Newport News, Va. and David N. of Pittsburg, Pa; as well as many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19 at the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula at 1817 Kecoughtan Rd, Hampton, Va. 23661. Only having met Betsy once or twice, I can say that she must have live a charitable and giving life because she has raised a son to be one of the most charitable men I know. Well Done, Betsy!!

It is with sadness that I have learned of Betsy's passing. Although my time with her was short, I always looked forward to being with her. She openly shared her many years of wisdom, was always gracious, and was most proud of her greatest accomplishment... her boys. May you rest in peace, my friend. To her family, I extend my sympathies.

I too would have have loved to have met Betsy. She must have been a most amazing woman. The fact that she instilled so much love in her family says so much. All my love and support goes out to you, David, and your family. I love you!
