We have yet another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter this morning.
Phil Rodgers, Class of @ 1941,
passed away in Newport News on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the age of 86.

NEWPORT NEWS - Philip
Lee Rodgers Sr., 86, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009. He was born May 21, 1923, in Newport News, Va. He attended Newport News High School and graduated from the Shipyard Apprentice School. Phil served in the 42nd Infantry during WWII. When he returned home, he married Joy Smith, of Hampton, and began working for the Newport News Shipyard. He retired after 41 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed working on cars, boating on the James River and painting, but his real love was his home and family. Phil will be remembered for his sense of humor, his unique way of looking at life and his kindness to strangers and friends. He was a great father and husband and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Phil is survived by his wife, Joy; children, Marilyn (Larry) Rostron, Philip (Brenda) Rodgers Jr., and Terry (Beth) Rodgers; grandchildren, Jessica, Parker and Sam. Viewing will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009, in Peninsula Memorial Park. Friends and relatives are invited to 29 Mammoth Oak, Newport News, after the service to celebrate Phil's life. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
