Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I was saddened
this Tuesday morning to read of the death of Edith
Schreiber Fine,
mother of
Carla
Fine Cripps ('65) of South Australia and Elissa Fine Glatstein ('68) of
TN, on
Friday, July 11, 2014 at the age of 93.
I remember Mrs. Fine so well from the days when our two families lived in the Stuart Homes Apartments. She, like her daughters, always seemed to be possessed of such high energy, a veritable fire of purpose; it made a very deep impression on me as a young child.
May her memory be for a blessing always.

I have very fond memories of
Mrs. Fine when they lived in the 1300th block of 22nd Street in Newport
News, VA. I was the oldest daughter in the "Kelly kids" family and
played with Carla and "Lisa"; we shared many fun times together while we
all lived on 22nd Street. Mrs. Fine was a wonderful person and a good
friend of my mom, Helen Kelly ~ Monica Kelly Barry, Hampton, Virginia July 15, 2014 Mr. and Mrs. Fine were
such a part of "downtown" Yorktown for many years. Sincere condolences
to their family. July 15, 2014 July 17, 2014
I remember first meeting Mr. and Mrs. Fine when I was a
child and shopped occasionally at their store. My best
memories, however, come from my time in high school when I
worked next door to them at the old Rich's convenience
store. Mrs. Fine, especially, would come over to visit with
us on slow days. I consider myself fortunate to have known
her during those "good old" days of the old Yorktown. So
many of the folks from that day like Mr. and Mrs. Fine, Mrs.
Howell, the Hockadays, and others made Yorktown a special
place. ~ Wayne Hunley, Yorktown, Virginia |
Our sincerest sympathies are extended to Carla and Alissa and their family and friends at this difficult time.
From Carla
Fine Cripps ('65) of South Australia - 07/22/14:
Hi, Carol, Thank you so much for running Mom’s obituary on the NNHS65 site, and for your personal kind words about her. It’s been good to hear from people who remember her and Dad from the old days. Ninety-three was a good age, and sadly, she had been very, very sick for a long time, so her ultimately gentle passing seemed like a release.
Thank you, Carla. Again you
have my deepest condolences.
