In the Summertime

“Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.”

- Sam Keen

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

This may be my favorite of the summer time songs.  It sounds happy and silly and a bit outrageous!

BIRTHDAYS:

Wait a minute! Tell me I didn't miss another birthday! ARGHHH!!!

It's too late.  I did.  Yesterday was a day of celebration for Eva Ellis Madagan ('61) of FL.  I'm so sorry, Eva!  I hope your day was full of love, joy, and much happiness!

  From John Murden ('60) of VA - 07/06/07 - "RE: Gustav Mahler's 147th Birthday":

I was wondering if you would remember Gustav!

Thanks a bunch, Carol, for ALL your hard work in guiding the spread of the NNHS spirit.

John

Thank you, John!   And I'll admit, this week's Newsletters have been both a strain and and release for me!  I was convinced, though, that if I pushed ahead even when my heart was low, I'd would feel better when they were completed - and I was right!  Thanks again, Sweetie!

From Evelyn Fryer Fish ('58) of TX - 07/07/07 - "RE: John Paul Jones' 260th Birthday":

Well, you surely put a damper on that Reunion - Size 6 - I need to start running and starving myself!!

................heh heh

lv, "Chubs"

Oh. Evelyn, you goof-button, you still look absolutely gorgeous!  I still think there's something basically unfair about your looking better now than you did when you graduated, but I love you anyway!

I, on the other hand, am finally emerging from my "I just don't care" total funk, and moved my exercise equipment back into easy accessibility, and am counting my carbs again. I'd be thrilled and delighted to fit into a size 12 again, personally.

   More lv, "Blubberella"

From Mickey Spivey ('65) of FL - 07/07/07 - "Change of e-mail":

I've been lost! Change my e-mail address to ____________________.
Thanks!

Mickey

Hi, Mickey! Thanks - I wondered where you'd been! Welcome back!

I changed your addie in both of my address books, but I didn't post it here, as I could find no evidence that you'd ever given me permission to do so.

From One of my Famous Marines -    Herb Hice of MI - 07/09/07 - "Dear Carol, Dean Martin & Foster Brooks, Open this and Laff !!!":

Dear Carol,

I haven't heard from you in such a long time, You must be out having a TOOT.

I was just about to write you the very same thing! Well, at least we're thinking along the same lines!

I do hope you are feeling good ??? The weather here in Michigan has been on the very warm side, I am sure your weather has not been much better???

"Very warm"?!? Oh, yes, Herbie, very warm, indeed!!!

I know you are a very busy Woman and I want you to take time out and watch this Video. Do you remember Dean Martin & Foster Brooks ??? Dean Martin was one of my all time favorite singers. I always looked forward to watching his show with the Gold Diggers. No one has ever played a drunk better than Foster Brooks. I received this video from a friend and I have watched it several times already, I think you will do the same ???

Have fun, Your friend, Herbie

I've always been a big Dean Martin fan myself. I loved that show - and Dean:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/06-07-07-NNHS-Dean-Martins-90th-Birthday.html

I'm sorry I couldn't attach that video somehow. Foster Brooks' drunk portrayal is indeed quite chillingly accurate!

Thanks, Herbie Darlin'!

From One of my Famous Marines -    Herb Hice of MI - 07/09/07 - "Dear Carol, Did you remove me from your mailing list, AGAIN ?????":

Dear Carol,

Seems like I slipped off your mailing list "AGAIN". Please reinstate me, I promise to be good,

Your Friend, Herbie

Herbie Darlin', I would just as soon cut off my toe as remove you from my mailing list!

No, wait a minute, that's a bad analogy.  There have been plenty of times when I would just as soon be rid of one of my toes - BUT NOT YOU!!!

I can't imagine what's happening. Your name's right in the middle of the third of my seven email batches, and should have received every single announcement.  You have a gmail account, so that should further facilitate it.

Hmmm. Okay, I've scooted your name up to the first batch, AND I'm gonna send it from thecluckmeat@yahoo.com, too.  THAT oughta do it!  I suppose you'll hafta find out what you've been missing here:

From Pam Smith Arnold ('65) of VA - 07/09/07 - "URGENT":

Carol,

You may want to post this. Great to see you and Paul - sorry about the circumstances.

Cuz' Pam

TWO SUBJECT LINES TO BEWARE OF:

BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. READ AND HEED.

I just verified this with Snopes and it is REAL. ALSO WENT TO TRUTH OR FICTION AND IT'S on their site also.

PLEASE INFORM EVERYONE

Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent and the moment that you open these emails your computer will crash and you will not be able to fix it!

If you get an email along the lines of "Osama Bin Laden Captured" or "Osama Hanged" don't open the attachment. This e-mail is being distributed through countries around the globe, but mainly in the US and Israel .....

You should be alert during the next days:

Do not open any message with an attached file called "Invitation" regardless of who sent it.

It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which "burns" the whole hard disc C of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts......

If you receive a mail called "invitation", though sent by a friend, do not open it and shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.

This virus was discovered by McAfee (recently), and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus.

This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

Thank you, Cousin Pam! Why can't people just be nice?!?

What was that line from that old song, "Kids," from the 20's - "Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way?"

IMPORTANT REPEATS:

From Karrin Williams Frankie (Warwick HS - '61) of VA - 06/26/07 - "Calling all Riverside Hospital Graduates":

I just received this email from a high school classmate to pass on. Please pass onto anyone you think might be a nurse or knows someone so they can have a great reunion. With so many people moving or getting married or re-married after graduation, it is hard to find everyone and emailing is a wonderful tool.

Thanks.

Karrin,

I know you have access to other classes besides our own. We are trying to let as many people know about our reunion as possible. Please forward this if it is not too much trouble.

Riverside School of Professional Nursing is having a Grand Reunion of all classes July 21 and July 22, 2007. There will be a luncheon on Saturday and a tour of the new school campus. Saturday night is open for the individual classes to meet. Sunday there will be a family picnic in NN Park, Jefferson Avenue near Ft. Eustis.

If you are a graduate or know someone who is, please help us get the word out so as many as possible will know and be able to attend. e-mail response or questions to:

rspnalumni@widowmaker.com

You can also e-mail me.
Judy Ring Whitehead

swhitehead4@cox.net

Thanks,
Judy

In the Summertime

- Ray Dorset

(Mungo Jerry, 1970)

Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh

In the summertime when the weather is high
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor just do what you feel
Speed along the lane
Do a ton or a ton an' twenty-five
When the sun goes down
You can make it, make it good in a lay-by

We're no grey, people
We're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody but we do as we please
When the weather's fine
We go fishin' or go swimmin' in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for livin' yeah, that's our philosophy

Sing along with us
Dee dee dee-dee dee
Dah dah dah-dah dah
Yeah we're hap-happy
Dah dah-dah
Dee-dah-do dee-dah-do dah-do-dah
Dah-do-dah-dah-dah
Dah-dah-dah do-dah-dah

Alright ah
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh

When the winter's here, yeah it's party time
Bring your bottle, wear your bright clothes
It'll soon be summertime
And we'll sing again
We'll go drivin' or maybe we'll settle down
If she's rich, if she's nice
Bring your friends and we'll all go into town

Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
