"Another Rose to brighten
your day":
|
|
Hi, Carol:
Since you enjoyed the images I sent to you earlier of
the roses growing in my yard, I thought I would share another which is
known as a "Tropicana Orange" and was delayed in blooming. It greeted us
upon our return to Florida this weekend.
Ohhhh, how lovely! Thank you so much, Joe! I hope it will brighten your day, and know that we lift you and Paul up in prayer daily as you await employment opportunities. |
||
| Tropicana Orange Rose | |||
It did indeed brighten my day, Joe, and I truly appreciate your prayers. So far I've remained reasonably optimistic with only occasional intermittent moments of sheer and total panic, but then, it's only been ten days so far! There is a lot of pain associated with being unemployed, and soon you will see why this circumstance came into your life. BOY HOWDY!!! (Nervous brave giggles!) Yes, apparently we have yet to learn some very important lesson about humility or something or other, so we must keep repeating this scenario over and over and over... I don't even recall how many times this makes.
So many TYPHOON of the Class of 1961 are subscribers
to your newsletters
and enjoy them.
That's so very nice to
hear, Joe! It's especially fun for me when I remember that I was but
a lowly mouse when they were seniors!
So many used the nickname "Adonis" when approaching me during the reunion last weekend.
TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL
Oh, how fun! What a nice way to
remember Kathy (Pilgrim
Clark - '63), who gave you that nickname!

From Al Simms ('60) of VA - 07/09/06 - "Vietnam War Facts":
|
Carol,
This is perhaps too long for a newsletter but with your interest in the
military, I thought that you might find it interesting. Most of this I
already knew but had not see it all in one place before. I cannot vouch
for the accuracy of every detail in it but I do know that most of it is
correct and have no reason to doubt the rest. It came from a member of
the NC Vietnam Veterans Yahoo Group.

Okay, Al, maybe it was a little too long for inclusion in today's
Newsletter; much to my disappointment. But given its importance, it
certainly needed to be recorded on our pages, so I posted it
immediately: http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/VA-Vietnam-KIA.html Thank you so much for sending it. I strongly encourage you all to read this. |

Reunion:
|
Hi, Carol: Many in the Class of 1961 visited our favorite stomping ground, Newport News High School during the reunion. To illustrate the drastic changes in the use of this building, I made a Navy Exchange purchase while visiting the Navy Barracks that was formerly Newport News High School. I am almost certain that someone sent you a photo of the window that Athletic Director Julius Conn used to observe the TYPHOON basketball games at home. But, just in case, here is another of that well known spot. I could almost hear "Julie" shouting with glee, "We are going to tourneyville, we are going to tourneyville!!!" |
This is the corner where the TYPHOON Bench was located for many years. I can still recall TYPHOON fans attending the JV and Varsity Basketball games sitting on the floor above the bench when the stands were full. They hung their feet and legs over the edge and used the lower bar for protection while the screamed and yelled for the TYPHOON. | ||

| Dear Carol, Can email get lost? I don't remember sending that email, but if I did, it had to be in like 2005. Joe Drewry P.S. BTW, your article on Kwanzaa was very well done. Why yes, indeed, Honey, they can and do get lost. I just don't understand how or why they do it, and where in cyberspace they hide in the interim, and above all, how or why they mysteriously reappear! This one was particularly perplexing. It bore a current date, rather than the real one. One thing really puzzled me. I know from looking at my stats that people do go back and read (or reread) the earlier Newsletters. But for the life of me, I couldn't understand why the Daily Press would be running a feature article on Kwanzaa in July! But I'm glad you liked
the article!

Did you watch Dateline on Sunday evening? They did a documentary on
cut-up lettuce and spinach in plastic bags. They took us through the
whole process and talked about Ecoli now that is showing up in the
salad mix in bags. They don't know yet how the Ecoli got in, but they
do know deaths and serious sicknesses are occurring in many states.
One woman told about how her child was near death from the lettuce and
was sick for a long time. They warned us not to buy any until they
find out from investigation what is causing this. The Dole Company
has recalled their bags.

Personally, I always chop and prepare my salads myself, but it just goes to show you. Roseanne Roseannadanna was right. "It's always something!" Thanks, Jennie!

You Won't See Me
Words and Music by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, 1965
(The Beatles)
When I call you
up
Your line's engaged
I have had enough
So act your age
We have lost the time
that was so hard to find
And I will lose my mind
If you won't see me
you won't see me
I don't know why
you should want to hide
But I can't get through
My hands are tied
I won't want to stay
I don't have much to say
But I can't turn away
And you won't see me
you won't see me
Time after time
You refuse to even listen
I wouldn't mind
If I knew what I was missing
Though the days are few
They're filled with tears
And since I lost you
It feels like years
Yes, it seems so long
Girl, since you've been gone
And I just can't go on
If you won't see me
you won't see me
Time after time
You refuse to even listen
I wouldn't mind
If I knew what I was missing
Though the days are few
They're filled with tears
And since I lost you
It feels like years
Yes, it seems so long
Girl, since you've been gone
And I just can't go on
If you won't see me
you won't see me
