He was predeceased by his mother Murline Swaim Latta, father Johnny P. Swaim, brother William (Bill) Swaim, and sister, Anne Swaim Cox. Wayne was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing golf and loved all things Virginia, but the Redskins and Nationals enjoyed preferred status. His family and friends remember him as an all-around good guy who was always there when needed! A memorial service will be held 1 PM Friday, July 7th, at Orcutt Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Chris Fowler. A family burial will be held prior to the service. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family wishes to thank Dr. John Bryant, the UVA Medical Center, Virginia Home Health Services, and the staff of The Newport for the loving care and support they provided to Wayne and his family over the past year. Arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

July 05, 2017 I met Wayne when he came out to Bluebird Farm here in Salem VA many years ago with his beautiful daughter Waynette. What a sweet and charming person he was who raised three beautiful strong daughters to carry on his legacy. Thinking and praying for all of you girls and your families. Your daddy was so proud of all of you all. ~ Christina Lee, Salem, Virginia My mom (Jean) and
Wayne shared life together for almost 20 years. He brought sunshine
wherever he went. Had a smile and joke for everyone he met. He loved my
mom, sister, me and my little girls, and we all loved him, too. He loved
dogs, especially his Beau Beau and Carly. Mailmen, nurses, waitresses,
dogs, clerks, baggers, Redskins fans, strangers.....Wayne befriended
everyone. He was always there, through good times and bad with a hug, a
smile and a joke (good ones and bad ones).
I.

Words by John Fawcett (1740-1817), after 1772
Music (Dennis) by Hans Georg Nägeli (26 May 1773 - 26 Dec 1836)
1. Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.
2. Before our Father's throne
We pour our ardent pray'rs;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims, are one,
Our comforts and our cares.
3. We share our mutual woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.
4. When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.
