Eric blazed the trail for many of
us who attended
Newport News High School.
Always a gentleman. Always calm and cool. I am blessed we were able to
connect in our later years. His love of writing and his concern for future
generations was always on display. You will be missed. June 28, 2020
Dear Burden
Family, June 28, 2020
I am so sorry for your loss. Keeping the Burden family in my prayers. I
hope your memories give you all comfort during this time. June 29, 2020
Praying for the family. June 29, 2020 So sorry to hear about your loss. You know that God and Jesus are in the best position to comfort us when we lose a loved one in death. June 29, 2020 Eric was one of my older first cousins. What I remember most about him from when I was a child was that he would act like a monster and chase me and Lolo around the house. I don't know about Lolo, but I actually felt scared. In later years Eric and I talked more frequently and he would not hang up without telling me that he loved me. Now instead of thinking mostly of how he scared me, I think of how he loved me. Sending prayers for the family. July 02, 2020
I loved Eric and Larry Burden, and they loved me. July 03, 2020![]() |
Our sincerest
sympathies are extended to Eric's family, friends, and classmates at this difficult
time.

The Strife Is O'er, the Battle Done
Text: Anonymous Latin; translated by Francis Pott (1832-1909)
Music: Giovanni P. da Palestrina; arranged by W.H. Monk (1823-1889)
Tune: VICTORY, Meter: 888 with Alleluias
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
The strife is o'er, the battle done,
the victory of life is won;
the song of triumph has begun.
Alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
The powers of death have done their worst,
but Christ their legions hath dispersed:
let shout of holy joy outburst.
Alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
The three sad days are quickly sped,
he rises glorious from the dead:
all glory to our risen Head!
Alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
He closed the yawning gates of hell,
the bars from heaven's high portals fell;
let hymns of praise his triumphs tell!
Alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Lord! by the stripes which wounded thee,
from death's dread sting thy servants free,
that we may live and sing to thee.
Alleluia!
