Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   Sad news continues to arrive.     Tommy White ('66) has passed away at his home in Edenton, NC at the age of 58.

   EDENTON, N.C. - Tommy White died at home Friday, June 22, 2007. He was born in Stedman, N.C., on Aug. 20, 1948, to Memory White and Kate Preslar White. Tommy was raised on the Peninsula and was a graduate of Newport News High School. Tommy was a Vietnam veteran, member of the Moose Lodge, Sons of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and a Master Electrician working out of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1340 in Newport News, Va. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jennie White; one son, Tommy Lee White; three brothers, Arizona, Gene and David and their wives, Marjorie and Jennie; three stepdaughters, Katherine White, Lynn and her husband, Mike, and Michelle and her husband, Kevin; and three grandchildren, Keith, Zachery and Emily. Tommy was affectionately known as 'Grandpa Tommy.' A viewing of the body will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 29, at the funeral home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Butler Funeral Home, Stedman, NC 28391. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to friends and neighbors for their thoughtfulness.

  Thomas Woodrow White

EDENTON — Thomas Woodrow White, 58, of Edenton, died Friday, June 22, 2007, in his home.

Mr. White was born in Stedman on Aug. 20, 1948, to Memory White and Kate Preslar White. Tommy was raised on the Peninsula and was a graduate of Newport News High School in Newport News, Va. Tommy was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Sons of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was a master electrician, working out of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1340 in Newport News. Tommy was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Grandpa Tommy.”

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2007, in Butler Funeral Home chapel in Stedman with the Rev. Randall Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in McAlphin-Autry Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2007, at the funeral home.

Mr. White is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jennie White; a son, Tommy Lee White; three brothers, Arizona White and wife Marjorie, Gene White and wife Jennie, and David White; three stepdaughters, Katherine White, Lynn and husband Mike, and Michelle and husband Kevin; and three grandchildren, Keith, Zachery and Emily.

To all the family members of Tommy White, I would like to say what a great man he was, and that he also would do anything for anyone to help. Tommy will be missed very much. Our prayers go out to the family. Let's all just remember all the good he did for all.

It was just yesterday that we were at school together. He was so quiet but with wonderful eyes that spoke volumes and a great smile. I remember him then and will always. My prayers are with you all. God Bless. Linda May ' 66
