06/26/16 - NNHS Newsletter - Here I Go Again

“Sometimes, when one person is missing,
the whole world seems depopulated.”

- Alphonse de Lamartine
(21 Oct 1780 - 28 Feb 1869)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

We have another 80's song today:

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3wdMu8Mvhc - Here I Go Again - Whitesnake - "one of the most famous 80's music videos in HD"

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_I_Go_Again:

"Here I Go Again" is a song recorded by Whitesnake...

The song was written by lead singer, David Coverdale, and former Whitesnake guitarist, Bernie Marsden. The most notable differences between the original and revamped version are the style of the music (blues-rock versus hard rock) and a slight change in the lyrics. The chorus of the original version features the lines:

"An' here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a hobo I was born to walk alone"

Whereas the newer version is:

"Like a drifter I was born to walk alone"

Whitesnake's Here I go again was featured as one of the greatest songs of the 80's on VH1.

“The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

   Thanks so much, Steve!

FOR THE ARCHIVE:

        From Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 06/24/16 - " Mrs. Nettles":

Mrs. Nettles was my Biology teacher and one of the nicest teachers--if not the absolute nicest--at NNHS!! Saw her many times in the 70's/80's and she always remembered my name!! For good reasons!!

From Kathryn Gayle Mintz ('61) of VA - 06/25/16 - " Mrs. Nettles":

My favorite along with Mrs. Nelson, Librarian. I saw Mrs. Nettles in a doctor's office about 15 years ago and she remembered me also. I thought she was the best ever. I had to have my appendix operation the year I was in her class and I was so lucky that I did not have to dissect the frog in order to pass. One of my best buddies, Russell Maynard, was in that class with me. When he died in our Senior year it tore me apart, as it did many; he was so well loved by so many...

Thank you so much for your remembrances, Wayne Honey and Kathryn! I added your remarks to her Teacher page:

Here I Go Again

Written by David Coverdale (b. 22 Sept 1951) and Bernie Marsden (b. 07 May 1951)

Recorded by Whitesnake, 1982

I don't know where I'm goin
but I sure know where I've been
hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday.
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time
but here I go again, here I go again.

Tho' I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for.
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on
'cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams.

Here I go again on my own
goin' down the only road I've ever known.
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone.
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time.

Just another heart in need of rescue
waiting on love's sweet charity
an' I'm gonna hold on for the rest of my days
'cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams.

Here I go again on my own
goin' down the only road I've ever known.
Like a hobo I was born to walk alone.
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time
but here I go again, here I go again,
here I go again, here I go.

An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time.

Here I go again on my own
goin' down the only road I've ever known.
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
'cause
I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams.

Here I go again on my own
goin' down the only road I've ever known.
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone.
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time
but here I go again, here I go again,
here I go again, here I go,
here I go again
