Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
| I had soooo
many interruptions today, I removed most of today's edition for tomorrow.
I first thought of foregoing it altogether but there were a couple of items
of a time-sensitive nature.
"I will return."

THE MYSTERIOUS IRVING BERLIN SONGSTRESS:
From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 06/21/06 - "Mystery singer...":
| Could it have been
Judy Garland or
Peggy Lee?
Noooooo - but thanks!
|
![]()
From Mike Leonard ('68) of VA - 06/21/06 - "Songs in question":
|
Carol,
How about Judy Garland on your
songs? I seem to remember her singing those tunes.
Mike Leonard (68)
I believe I do too, Mikey,
but she's not the one I'm trying to recall. But
thanks!

THE MYSTERIOUS IRVING BERLIN SONGSTRESS REVEALED!!!
From Eric Huffstutler (Bethel HS - '75) of VA - 06/21/06 - "Irving Berlin
Songs":
|
Could your mystery
singer be Connee Boswell? She had an album out called "Sings
Irving Berlin" from around 1958. Not all of the songs you mention are
on it but she did sing the others and you can hear a bit of the samples
at this link from allmusic:
Let me know if this is your
gal?
Eric Huffstutler
BHS '75 Eric, you Sweetie-Pie!
I can barely believe you
found her, but you did! CONNEE BOSWELL?!? No
wonder I couldn't remember her! I STILL never heard of her! But
that's her, unmistakably! And I was right - she was singing in the late
30's.
And lookee here - a little
bio and more songs!
I've no idea how you found
her, but please don't tell me. This is no time for me to give up
believing in magic! Thanks so much!
You're welcome. Just a little old fashioned sleuthing from someone who has used the computer for 17 years and done genealogy for nearly as long :-) You learn the tricks in finding things. |

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 06/21/06:
| In case you are wondering, she died
in 1976 of cancer. http://www.deadoraliveinfo.com/dead.nsf/bnames-nf/Boswell+Connee
Thank you, Captain. Having seen she was a victim of polio as an
infant, I was indeed curious.
WOWZERONI!!!
This IS a valuable resource! Thanks so much, David!

SLIGHT BACKLOGS (BUT NOT THE OLDER BACKLOGS...):
From Sandi
Bateman Chestnut ('65) of VA - 06/19/06 - "Cervical Cancer Bracelet":
| This is legitimate.......be sure to check
out the website, if you haven't already seen it. Go to this link and order your free bracelet- it costs you nothing, but for every one that is ordered, Merck Pharmaceuticals donates $1 for cervical cancer research. It only takes a minute and is legit; the link sends you right to the Merck website. It would be great to get Merck to donate the "up to $100,000" they have agreed to do! http://www.maketheconnection.org Thank you, Sandi!
This is important!

From Elaine Wilkinson Bracken
('61) of VA - 06/19/06:
| 1. At least 5 people in this
world love you so much they would die for you. 2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way. 3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you. 4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you. 5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep. 6. You mean the world to someone. 7. If not for you, someone may not be living. 8. You are special and unique. 9. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you. 10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it. 11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world. 12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you will get it. 13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks. 14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know. 15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great. A Minute: They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Take the time... to live and love. These are so
nice to remember, Elaine! Thanks for sharing them with us!

From Jennifer Sheppard ('62) of

Be
Blessed.... and pass this on to encourage another...... "To the world you might be one person, but to one person you just might be the world."
Thanks, Jennie! Everyone can always use another hug!

Can't Buy Me Love
- John Lennon and Paul McCartney
(The Beatles, 1964)
Can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love
I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend
If it makes you feel all right
I'll get you anything my friend
If it makes you feel all right
'Cause I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love
I'll give you all I've got to give
If you say you love me too
I may not have a lot to give
but what I've got I'll give to you
For I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love
Can't buy me love
Everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love
No, no, no, no
Say you don't need no diamond ring
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want those kind of things
that money just can't buy
For I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love
Can't buy me love
Everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love
No, no, no, no
Say you don't need no diamond ring
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want those kind of things
that money just can't buy
For I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love
Ooh, can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love, no
