Dear Eddie, Amanda, Sheila and Carol,
Susan was my friend for 53 years and I don't know of a single person who's life she touched that was not blessed for having known her. Susan didn't do anything halfway....wife, mother, sister and friend but most of all Christian, she was a true inspiration to us all. Her rewards in Heaven will be many. Susan has left so many happy, funny memories to help us through this time of grief. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God bless you and ease the pain in your hearts.

So sorry to hear of Susan's passing. I remember the days when I drove the ol' VW Beetle in Northside's parking lot. What more can I say that hasn't been already? I'm at a loss for words. I have fond memories of Susan, especially growing up. Even though I was a horrible terror of a child she was always nice to me. And in the end she remained filled with light even in fading health. Nothing is permanent though, including pain and sorrow. She'll be missed.

  Graceful fingers and wispy hair,
A prayer so soft you almost couldn't hear.

But when she wanted, she had a voice loud and strong,
That would sing the most beautiful songs.

They gave her some time but she took eleven years,
And shocked all her peers.

But she wasn't shocked not one little bit,
And her prayer always was,

Till that minute, that time, that very last day,
God's will be done, His way.

AUNT SUSAN, YOU WILL BE MISSED!!!!

Dear Eddie, Amanda and family, We are so sorry for your loss. Susan was the absolute kindest and most Christian woman I have ever been blessed to know. She knew the answers to life's little problems and was ever ready to lend a hand. She graced us all with her clever wit. A beautiful wife, mother, sister, neighbor and friend, she will sorely be missed. Just as Susan has lovingly kept a candle burning in her window - all who knew her smile, her laughter, kindness and optimism, will be blessed with the bright light of her memory that will soothe the aching heart. God bless and keep you in the comfort of His Arms.

Dear Eddie, Amanda, Sheila & Carol,
I loved Susan as my own "Sissy". We had 45 wonderful years together as sisters of the heart and sisters in Christ. Even though I know we will all miss her, I also know that she is with Jesus, her parents, Little Sue, Mrs. Hamilton, and many more people that she has loved over the years. She is saving a place for us and we will all rejoice with her again soon. I pray that God will give you grace and mercy to get through the difficult days ahead. And always remember that I love you and will be here to help with whatever.

From Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of VA - 06/17/10, 3:47 PM - "Thank You":

Carol,

Carol,
Thank you for your personal note of condolence.  I knew it would not be long but that doesn't diminish the pain of losing Suzie.  Her obituary said she had been a resident of the peninsula for 47 years.  I met Suzie, Sheila and Carol, for the first time on the corner of 23rd and Chestnut Avenue in 1957.  I know I'm getting older, but for me that is 53 years. See....you're not the only one who has an occasional booboo.  You have chosen a hard job to do in passing on such sad news of what seems an increasingly large number of old friends.  Thank you for all you do for us, we're so lucky to have you.....

 Joyce Cahoon

Thank you so much, Joyce.   Again, my deepest sympathies on the loss of your dead friend.

From Kathy Presgraves Whitt ('71) of VA - 06/30/10, 7:16 AM - "   Susan Whitt Vest":

I was reading about Susan and you have her listed as the Class of 1967.

She graduated with my husband, her cousin, Tim Whitt from the class of 1966.

Her  picture is in the 1966 Anchor also.

Katherine L.  Whitt

Oh.  OHHHH.  Well, that certainly answers many questions for me!  Thank you so very much, Kathy!

I've corrected all the errors I could find, scanned Susan's senior portrait, and of course - switched her from the In Memoriam Page for the Class of 1967 to her own actual class.

Y'all take good care of each other!  TYPHOONS FOREVER!  We'll Always Have Buckroe!

                          Love to all, Carol

Come, Ye Disconsolate

Words by Thomas Moore; alt. by Thomas Hastings
Music by Samuel Webbe

Come, ye disconsolate, where'er ye languish.
Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel.
Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish;
Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.

Joy of the desolate, light of the straying,
Hope of the penitent, fadeless and pure!
Here speaks the Comforter, tenderly saying,
"Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot cure."

Here see the bread of life; waters flowing
Forth from the throne of God, pure from above.
Come to the feast of love; come, ever knowing
Earth has no sorrow but heaven can remove.
