06/13/16 - NNHS Newsletter - Glenn Dye

Glenn O. Dye, Jr.
(25 June 1942 - 11 June 2016)

Newport News High School Class of 1960

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I was grieved to learn this Monday of the death of   Glenn Dye, Class of 1960.  He passed away in Grand Prairie, Texas on Saturday, June 11, 2016 exactly two weeks before his 74th birthday.

Glenn was one of the most supportive contributors to the NNHS65 website. Two of his lasting submissions come immediately to mind. First, it was through his inspiration that the Birthday Page was begun almost twelve years ago. The second contribution which is used frequently throughout our Newsletters came in the form of this highly appropriate animation he sent me in August of 2009 - .

Glenn. I can remember him singing gospel music and sounding good. And growing up and visiting him and Aunt Hattie and Uncle Glenn. Rest in peace and rejoice with the angels.

You have my sincere condolences for your loss. May our God grant you comfort and peace as you cope with your grief.

June 13, 2016

Our thoughts and prayers are with the extended family of Glenn. My friendship with Glenn and his parents go all the way back to when we were small children living as neighbors in the Copeland Park area of Newport News, Virginia. We attended the same church and many times Glenn would come to our home for lunch and play time between the morning service and evening service. Our parents were the best of friends.

Sincerely, Bill Rogerson / Fredericksburg, Virginia

From Lisa Dye (South Grand Prairie HS, TX) of TX - 07/11/16:

It's been one month today since we lost my dad. There are days I still can't believe he is gone. Some days I want to call him up and ask if he has heard the latest news in gospel music, tell him about a new booking we just got, or tell him about a recent concert we sang. He was our biggest fan! I sure do miss him.

Thank you, Lisa! I think of you often during this time of mourning, Lisa. I'm not sure you ever saw the NNHS Memorial Newsletter I made for your dad. As I recall I was too upset to pass it along then.

From Joyce Simmons Dye (Grand Prairie HS, TX) of TX":

Thank you for posting this. Glenn was my husband for almost 40 years. He loved getting news from NNHS. Thank you for all the updates.

Certainly, Joyce! Though I never met your husband, I really miss his notes and input. Thank you so much for letting me know this. I know Glenn loved his Savior and his family. You have my deepest sympathies.

Y'all take good care of each other!  TYPHOONS FOREVER! We'll Always Have Buckroe!

                          Love to all, Carol

Take My Hand, Precious Lord

Words by the Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey
(02 July 1899 - 23 Jan 1993)

Music by George Nelson Allen
(07 Sept 1812 - 09 Dec 1877)

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on,
Let me stand
I'm tired, I am weak I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When my way grows drear precious Lord linger near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry,
Hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When the darkness appears and the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand
Guide my feet,
Hold my hand
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on,
Let me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
