Wilroy Sammons, Class of 1963, brother of Joan Sammons Tokarz ('60) of VA and Merle Sammons Ivey ('66) of VA, passed away in Newport News on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the age of 65. http://wilroysammons.blogspot.com/ From the Daily Press - 06/11/09 and 06/12/09: William Wilroy Sammons NEWPORT NEWS - William Wilroy Sammons, born Oct. 9, 1943, died June 10, at Riverside Hospital. He was a native of Newport News, son of the late Wilroy and Elizabeth Sammons. He was the second generation owner of The Commercial Printer, established in 1941. He worked alongside his father until the latter's retirement in 1982. He then continued the business until merging with Breeger Media Group in 2009. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and a member of Bremond Lodge No. 241 AF&AM. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies and the Khedive Shrine Temple. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, friend and constant companion in work and play. Also children, Chris Sammons and wife, Robin of Medford, N.J., Bill Sammons and wife, Betty Lou of Gloucester, Va., daughter, Cyndie Workman and husband, Dennis Workman of Deland, Fla.; sisters, Joan Tokarz and husband, Dick of Newport News, Merle Ivey and husband, Dennis of Williamsburg; uncle, Edward Sammons, a WWII veteran of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and many cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws. Wilroy Sammons Funeral Agreements are incomplete at this time. UPDATE: The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peninsula Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.In Lieu of flowers, request donations be made to the Peninsula Rescue Mission at P O Box 377 Newport News, VA 23607. The sad news returns today. Wilroy Sammons, Class of 1963, brother of Joan Sammons Tokarz ('60) of VA and Merle Sammons Ivey ('66) of VA, passed away in Newport News on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the age of 65.
