From Eric Huffstutler (Bethel HS - '75)
of VA - 06/06/10 - "Old Movie - surprise!":
Carol, I remember a while back both you and your son were big into old movies - especially horror and/or sci-fi? This may be of interest to you and anyone else who may have seen this movie. It was made in 1964 but the backlot story is of more interest than the movie itself which never had an official release. It wasn't even seen by people until it hit the television circuit after 1975. Why am I mentioning this? Because there is a documentary being made by an Emmy award winning producer and I am a part of it! Flew out to Denver, CO back in April to do my on camera parts of this 90-minute documentary which will hit the film festival circuits, theaters, cable, and eventually DVD. It is called "Creep!" I will provide both a link to the website and a YouTube link for an advanced teaser trailer. You will see me in a quick blurb (no name listed for me in this one but I am at about 53 seconds in - the one with a white goatee). I am a major player as I gave what the producer called a "backbone" to the story. The original movie is entitled "The Creeping Terror" and is now considered the worst movie ever made but wasn't supposed to be that way. Art Nelson, producer-director-screenwriter-actor-etc... of the '64 movie was a con-artist and criminal of extraordinary extent, a psychopath who may have killed but definitely was a sadist, drug fiend, and escapee from prison living under various assumed named until his death. Even his ex-wife wrote a book about her abusive life with him called "Hollywood Con-Artist". The producer Pete Schuermann, did a well know documentary with intro by Robin Wright Penn called "Haze" (2008) about the Hazing and 2004 alcohol death incident of Gordie Bailey in Boulder, CO. It won several awards. He also did the 50-anniversary documentary hosted by Julie Andrews for Disney World and done many high profile commercials as well as music videos and mini movies. WOWZERONI!
That is WAAAAY cool
(except, of course, they should have added your NAME!)!
Thanks, Eric!
Actually, I'm more of a film noir / mystery / 40s drama / WWII movie fan myself, while Nathaniel is much more of an expert and critic than I, with a much broader range as well. "I just know what I like." So I sent this on to him: |

If you ever figure out the cause of this goofiness, Sydney, please let
me know what is causing it! On another subject, a few
years ago I got a virus on my computer from a forwarded e-mail and it
was just such a disaster that consequently I never open forwarded
e-mails (well, almost never - occasionally if I get one from one of my
kids and absolutely know and trust the source I will open it) and I
absolutely never forward a forwarded e-mail. I might send a forwarded
message as an attachment to a separate e-mail again if I know and trust
the source but I always let the recipient know that (as I did when I

Rusk recorded in his autobiography that de Gaulle did not

Every few years I
check in. I am probably one of the least active members of the site or
maybe even the class. I do enjoy reading updates and the various
communications with the letters. I actually went to the website for the
first time in quite awhile today as I am home this afternoon. I don’t
know what you need from me, but you could publish my email which is
different from the one listed; it is
r.w.harman@cox.net, and also you have my permission to place my
class photo in the alumni section, and my birthday is September 14th
and you can place that somewhere when the time comes.
I do hope that I
can make this year’s gathering in October. I am supposed to go to
California about the same time but hopefully I can get it worked out.
You are very good with this site and it is unbelievable. We all owe you
a debt of gratitude for doing this work.
Thanks, Carol, and take
care.

Do either of you recall any Typhoon(s) by the
name of Quisenberry?
While waiting in line at a Delta gate in La
Guardia to be rebooked after several flight
cancellations, I struck up a conversation with a
couple. Most of us were there due to the
cancellation of a flight to Norfolk, so it was
logical to enquire. They were headed for
Richmond, but the lady said that she had grown
up in NN. Of course, we began zeroing in on
common people, dates, and places. A few
iterations later, she said she had grown up in
East End and her mother had attended
NNHS. I asked what year,
she faltered, and I suggested that she do the
math. She said her mother was 60, so guessed a
class in the 66-69 time frame. I asked her
mother’s name: Quisenberry. She said that she
also had an uncle who attended. I said that the
name sounded familiar.
I
just looked through my Anchors, but could
find no one.
Ring any bells??
"Anyone? Anyone?"
Thanks, David!

06/07/10 - "Missing newsletter":
Hi Carol,
My old problem of missing newsletters is back. If you recall, back when
you were having so many problems with your old server I suddenly stopped
receiving the NNHS newsletters. I tried everything I could think of with
my e-mail settings, but nothing I tried worked. You were nice enough to
try a couple of things for me to try to resolve the problem but still to
no avail. However, when you changed servers, suddenly I started
receiving them again. Everything was great until about the time you took
a few days off when you were having company. A week went by, and then
another and I thought, "Wow, she must be having a really good time,"
thinking they would start back any day but after another week I decided
to go to the website and check the 2010 newsletters there and saw
that I was again not receiving them. Maybe after the server change, it
just took awhile for my e-mail provider to decide that these were spam
but they aren't even showing up as spam. Then suddenly I received the
one for June 4th. Maybe it just somehow slipped through my e-mail's
defenses, because I didn't get one for the next two days which included
D-Day's edition and I knew you would have one out for that day. I
don't know what's going on but it just gets curiouser and curiouser. I
am going to call my provider when I have an hour or two to sit and work
with them over the phone and see if they can shed any light on it.
Sandra Canepa's ('56 -
of VA) attachment about
Joe Tolly ('56)
to an e-mail to you). Anyway, I did get an e-mail (it was retyped
and not forwarded) from one of my classmates and wanted to share at
least a part of it so I am retyping just a bit of it. Again, I have not
received all the latest newsletters so if I am repeating something
already shared, I apologize but yesterday being the D-Day anniversary
and Independence Day coming up in a few weeks, this seemed appropriate.
I do not want to make this political so I will only say that recently
some of our politicians as well as some entertainers have been heard
apologizing to other countries for our country's prior actions. In the
early 60's JFK's Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France when
DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all U. S.
military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded, "Does that
include those who are buried here?" DeGaulle did not respond. You could
have heard a pin drop.
There were several other examples of how some of our other former
patriots handled negative comments about our country, but this one sums
it up as well as any of them. I did not check them for complete accuracy
but if they are not 100% accurate, they should be.
Proud to be an American!

A Noise...
My wife has not spoken to me in three days. I think it has something to
do with what happened on Sunday night when she thought she heard a noise
downstairs.
She nudged me and whispered, "Wake up, wake up!"
"What's the matter?" I asked.
"There are burglars in the kitchen. I think they're eating the tuna
casserole I made tonight."
"That'll teach them!" I replied.
A flight attendant on a United Air Lines cross-country flight nervously
announced: about 30 minutes outbound from LA, "I don't know how this
happened, but we have 103 passengers aboard and only 40 dinners."
When the passengers' muttering had died down, she continued, "Anyone who
is kind enough to give up his meal so someone else can eat will receive
free drinks for the length of the flight."
Her next announcement came an hour later. "If anyone wants to change his
mind, we still have 29 dinners available!

Count every star in the midnight sky
Count every rose, every firefly
For that's how many times I miss you
Heaven knows I miss you
Count every leaf on a willow tree
Count every wave on a stormy sea
Count every star and darling when you do
You'll know the times I have cried for you

Count every wave on a stormy sea
Count every star and darling when you do
