Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Let's see if we really have any secrets to divulge today..... ‹(•¿•)› |
BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQG8fGXQBYo - Do You Want to Know a Secret? - The Beatles, 1963
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_You_Want_to_Know_a_Secret:
"Do You Want to Know a Secret" is a song by the Beatles from the 1963 album Please Please Me, sung by George Harrison. In the United States, it was the first top ten song to feature Harrison as a lead singer, reaching number 2 on the Billboard chart in 1964 as a single released by Vee-Jay, VJ 587. The song reached the #1 position on Billboard in 1981 and #2 in the United Kingdom in a cover version by Stars on 45 as part of a medley. Alvin and the Chipmunks covered the song for their 1964 album The Chipmunks Sing the Beatles Hits.
"Do You Want to Know a Secret" was primarily written by John Lennon, but credited to McCartney–Lennon. The song was inspired by "I'm Wishing",[1] a tune from Walt Disney’s 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which Lennon's mother, Julia Lennon, would sing to him as a child. The first two lines of the song in Disney's movie ("Want to know a secret? Promise not to tell?") come right after the opening lyrics ("You'll never know how much I really love you... You'll never know how much I really care...").[2][3] McCartney said it was a "50-50 collaboration written to order", i.e., for Harrison to sing.[4]
In 1980, Lennon said that he gave "Do You Want to Know a Secret" to Harrison to sing because "it only had three notes and he wasn't the best singer in the world", but added "he has improved a lot since then."[3] Harrison sang two songs on Please Please Me, this song by Lennon–McCartney and "Chains" by Goffin/King. "Don't Bother Me" from With The Beatles, was the first Beatles song composed solely by Harrison.[5]
The song was recorded during a ten-hour session on 11 February 1963 along with nine other songs for Please Please Me.[6]
"Do You Want to Know a Secret" was released a year later as a single by Vee-Jay in the United States on 23 March 1964, reaching the number two spot behind another Beatles song, "Can't Buy Me Love" in Billboard, reaching number three on the Cash Box chart, but reaching number one for two weeks in the chart published by the Teletheatre Research Institute...

TODAY IN WWII:
June 02, 1941 - The Massacre of Kondomari: German paratoopers murdered Greek civilians in the village of Kondomari. The shooting was the first of a long series of mass reprisals in Crete and was orchestrated by Generaloberst Kurt Student, in retaliation for the participation of Cretans in the Battle of Crete which had ended with the surrender of the island only two days earlier. Men, women and children were forced to gather in the village square. Then, a number of hostages was selected among the men while women and children were released. The hostages were led to the surrounding olive groves and later fired upon in cold blood. The exact number of the victims is unclear. According to German records, a total of 23 men were killed but other sources raise the toll to about 60.June 02, 1944 - The United States began "shuttle bombing" in Operation Frantic. The operation was created solely to destroy Germany's war economy.
TODAY IN 1964:

How to Kill
Mosquitoes - NOT A JOKE You may be aware of this, How to Kill Mosquitoes - NOT A JOKE I can't wait to try this in the summer! I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well.. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it....Pass it on. OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS: I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use as the can of Bug-spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog house. Now these are Good Mosquitoes!!! EARTH FRIENDLY, TOO! |
Thanks so much, Jimmy! ![]() |
