We have another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter this
Sunday morning.
Carleton Powell, Class of @ 1950, passed away in
Newport News on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the age of 80.

NEWPORT NEWS - Carleton
Branch Powell, 80, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013, surrounded by
his family.
He was a native of Warrenton, NC and moved to Newport News at an early age, graduating from Newport News High School and Virginia Commonwealth University. He also served in the United States Air Force. He retired in 1992 from Newport News Shipbuilding, completing 31 years of service. He was an active member of Hilton Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School in the Children's Department for over 30 years. Carleton was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eulalia Powell; his brother, John B. Powell; his sister, Christine Elmore; and a grandson, Nicholas Powell. |

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Myrna Anne; son Carl (Dawn) and their children, September and Madison Powell, Jeremy, Ashley and Michael Oblein, and a grandchild, Anilah Oblein; son John (Jane) and their children, Kate and Elisabeth; and a sister Dorothy Elwell (Tom). The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, Sunday, June 2, 2013 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Monday, June 3, 2013 at Hilton Baptist Church with Pastor Lynwood Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
