Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Here's a 1957 Golden Oldie for today.
BONUS - Oh Boy! - Buddy Holly
|"Oh, Boy!" was written by Sonny West, Bill Tilghman and Norman Petty. The song was originally recorded by Sonny West in the late 1950s but failed to achieve any commercial success. It was later recorded by Buddy Holly and the Crickets between June 29 and July 1 in 1957, at Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico, with Holly singing lead vocals and The Picks providing backing vocals. The song is in an A-A-B-A format with a 12-bar blues verse and an 8-bar bridge. (Holly also covered another West song, "Rave On".)...|

From Jimmy Dick ('65) of FL - 05/25/19, @ 10:30 AM - "The Memorial Day Weekend, 2019, Begins: Honor the Fallen!":
And a blessed if late GOOD MORNING to
everyone on this Saturday, the first of three days in Memorial
Day Weekend 2019. I got all my chores done before hitting the
keyboard as it will be 100 and up for at least the next four
days in North Florida with not a cloud in the sky...
As the Memorial Day weekend opens and we all want to enjoy ourselves and play, we must remember its purpose and drop to our knees, bow our heads humbly and pray. Pray for the oft forgotten warriors who died for the nation they served, and remember how valiant they were as they never returned to a grateful nation, never celebrating the welcome they deserved.
As we enjoy the traditional cookout, or the refreshing swim at the beach. Or maybe it's the glorious hike in the mountains, or the professional baseball game in the city. But wherever we are, ponder the young recent high school graduate in 1966, who proudly finished training and came home displaying his uniform, then went to Viet Nam and lost his life in his first day of battle. And also the seasoned old leatherneck who died in a final battle in the South Pacific and never saw his baby girl who grew up with only pictures of her daddy. These are the events we never hear of and have often never come close to experiencing ourselves, but they were commonplace in the aftermath of combat and they deserve our honor, respect and remembrance.
Despite all the movies that glorify war and the stories of victories attained, war is hell, plain and simple. People are wounded, bloodied and die and places are destroyed. Yet while we pray that we never have to fight as a nation again, as long as evil dictators have visions of domination, America must be prepared to fight. And those who have already been through it and gave the ultimate sacrifice must be remembered and honored by we, the fortunate. Do so with reverence and dignity, then have a wonderful weekend. God bless everyone and God bless the United States of America.
Thank you, Jimmy!

This petunia is growing out
of my neighbor’s brick wall. She has no garden or yard. There are no
pink petunias on my block. I can’t fathom how a petunia seed got lodged
in the cracks between the bricks. And yet, there it is, and it is
So when life sticks you in a crack, be like this petunia. Bloom anyway.
WOWZERS! Thank you, Charis!
