There is another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.
Murphy Davis,
father of
Jerry Burks ('62)
and of the late
Kay
Burks McCormick (Class of 1965)
(d. 27 Apr 2005), passed away at
home in Hampton on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the age of 95.

HAMPTON -
Murphy Lee Davis, 95, died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 22, 2014.
Mr. Davis served in the U. S. Army for 20 years during WWII and the Korean War, during which time he received many awards and medals, to include the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters. Following his service to his country, he worked Civil Service at Ft. Eustis for 15 years. He was an active member of Deer Park Baptist Church for many years, before becoming a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Lois Davis; sons, Robert Davis (Dolly), Gary Davis, and Gerald "Jerry" Burks (Terry); daughter Dianne Miller (Brad); granddaughters, April Sargent (Jason) and Kristina Williams (Richard); a great-granddaughter Abigale Williams; a sister Pauline Leonhard; sisters-in-law, Anne Davis and Cheryl Pearce; brother-in-law Donald Gardner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Sarah Davis, great-granddaughter, Sarah Ann Williams; and daughter Kay McCormick. |

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church, with a funeral service immediately following at 11 AM with Rev. John Etcher officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family would like to express their appreciation to Compassionate Care Hospice for their loving care.

Murphy was a gentle
giant. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. Heaven is
a better place today and I am sure Sarah is singing praises! You are

Murphy introduced my mom
and dad in 1941. We all love him for that. He was always a
great friend to my parents and to our family. He will be
