Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   We have still more sad news to report today.   Geno Benthall, son of the late     John Benthall (Class of 1960) (d. 13 Oct 2011), and nephew of the late Donnie Benthall (Class of 1964) (27 Oct 1945 - 04 Jan 1990), passed away at home in Newport News on Thursday, May 22, 2014.

NEWPORT NEWS - Eugene Wesley "Geno" Benthall, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at home.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Benthall, Sr.; paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandfather.

Survivors include his mother, Judy "JuJu" Benthall; two sisters, Tina and her husband, James, Robin; three brothers, John, Jr. and wife, Charlotte, Ricky and friend, Sharyn, Tony; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at their home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at

Gene, I absolutely cannot believe this is real. My heart is so heavy. You, Mike, Charlie, Barbara and Sherri will always be in my most fond memories growing up. You had such a big heart and always, always looked out for me like my brother. None of us will ever get over losing you but I hope each of us can find a way to live with this great loss.

Although we drifted apart. I still tell stories about the "good ol' days" and "back in the day" we were running the streets of Swansea Manor on our bikes hangin' out in the woods and thinking about nuthin' but skippin' school and chasin' girls. I will always have the best memories of you, my friend. I pray that God grants your family peace and comfort in these tough days ahead; we'll see you again.
