05/23/14 - NNHS Newsletter - Spiderwebs

Humanity is like a giant spiderweb. If you touch it anywhere, you set the whole thing trembling. As we move around this world
and as we act with kindness, perhaps, or with indifference, or with hostility, toward the people we meet, we too are setting
the great spider web a-tremble. The life that I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and that in turn another,
until who knows where the trembling stops or in what far place and time my touch will be felt. Our lives are linked.
No man is an island.

-
Frederick Buechner - Our Lives Are Linked
(b. 11 July 1926)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's Newsletter theme is prompted by the tremendously huge spider which showed up in our bathroom and contaminated my dreams as well as my home.   Thanks a lot, Giant Spider!

BONUS - Spiderwebs - No Doubt, 1995

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiderwebs_%28song%29:

"Spiderwebs" is a ska punk song written by Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal for No Doubt's third studio album Tragic Kingdom (1995). It was released as the album's second single in 1995 (see 1995 in music).

The song debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart and peaked at number 5 after three weeks of its release. The song's lyrics are about a man who had been calling Gwen at all hours to recite bad poetry to her.[1] Musically, the song uses a drum for the beat and various brass instruments, such as a trombone to build up the crescendos in the chorus...

From Steve Hochman ('60) of VA - 05/22/14 - "NNHS Newsletters":

Carol,

I have not heard any Typhoon news from you recently! I hope all is well, and I look for forward to hearing all the latest from Typhoon land! We all appreciate all you do!

Sincerely, Steve Hochman (60)

Thanks for checking, Steve!  The latest news is available on the 2014 NNHS Newsletters link, but beginning April 1, some silly anti-spam measures suddenly and without warning left me unable to initiate any emails.

     "Message rejected due to DMARC."

On rare occasions I am able to reply to those I receive.  I may at last have figured out a way around this, so stay tuned, spread the word, and look here to see what you've been missing for the last seven weeks:

From Fred Field (June '45) of CA - 05/21/14 - "Still Upright":

Hello Carol,      5-21-14

Just a few words to assure you that I'm still alive.

At present I'm catching up on back issues.

Would appreciate getting back on the notification roster.

Fred W. Field,
Fullerton, CA

Hi, Fred - it's so good to hear from you, and to know that you are well!

You are certainly still on my mailing list, but after the original fiasco in early April when I was blasted by several hundred separate and individual notices telling me that my notes did not and would not go ANYWHERE as I have been declared by unknown authorities the Evil Incarnate, I have had not the heart nor the will to try sending them again. But as I told Steve, I may have at last thought of a Plan of Action. Stay tuned!

HISTORY IN 2 MINUTES.....THIS IS A WOW

This is amazing and very creative.

Seventeen-year-old Joe Bush got a high school assignment to make a video production. He chose history as a theme and tucked it all into two minutes; don't blink your eyes for a second. Make sure you have two minutes available to watch else you will be upset you didn't take the time

Turn on your sound and hold on tight!

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 05/22/13:

A man found a magic genie who would grant him one wish.

The man said to the genie,” I wish that I had a non-stop bridge from here to Hawaii."

The genie said,” I’m sorry, but that's going to be very hard. Do you have another wish?"

The man answered, "Of course! I want the power to understand all women."

The genie thought for a minute. He replied, "How many platforms did you want on that bridge?"

Spiderwebs

Written by Gwen Stefani (b. 03 Oct 1969) and Tony Kanal (b. 27 Aug 1970)

Recorded by No Doubt, 1995

You think that we connect
That the chemistry's correct
Your words walk right through my ears
Presuming I like what I hear
And now I'm stuck in the
The web you're spinning
You've got me for your prey

(Yeah) Sorry I'm not home right now
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So leave a message
And I'll call you back
A likely story, but (Yeah) leave a message
And I'll call you back

You're intruding on what's mine
And you're taking up my time
Don't have the courage inside me
To tell you please let me be

Communication, a telephonic invasion
I'm planning my escape...

(Yeah) Sorry I'm not home right now
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So leave a message
And I'll call you back
A likely story, but (Yeah) leave a message
And I'll call you back

And it's all your fault
I screen my phone calls
No matter who calls
I gotta screen my phone calls

Now it's gone to deep (Now, it's gone too deep)
You wake me in my sleep (Wake me in my sleep)
My dreams become nightmares (Dreams become nightmares)
'Cause you're ringing in my ears

(Yeah) Sorry I'm not home right now
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So leave a message
And I'll call you back
A likely story, but (Yeah) leave a message
And I'll call you back

And it's all your fault
I screen my phone calls
No matter-matter-matter-matter who calls
I gotta screen my phone calls

Oooh, the spiderwebs
Leave a message and I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So, leave a message and I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs
It's all your fault, no matter who calls
I gotta screen my phone calls
It's all your fault, it's all your fault
No matter who calls, no matter who calls

I'm walking into spiderwebs so,
Leave a message and I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs so,
Leave a message and I'll call you back
