05/15/16 - NNHS Newsletter - Pentecost

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all
the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire,
and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak
with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

- Acts 2: 1-4 (KJV)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   This Christian observance falls 50 days after Easter Sunday.

HOMEWORK:

From http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/pentecost:

"In the United States, Christians share their perspective about the meaning of Pentecost as well as how the diversity of languages and cultures can enhance their worship and fellowship with each another. Christians see Pentecost as an expansion of God's favor and care from Judaism to all peoples.

Many churches celebrate Pentecost with a mass or worship service on this day. In some churches, the secular Mother's Day holiday is probably celebrated more frequently than the Pentecost feast."

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 05/14/16:

A boy was taking care of his baby sister while his parents went to town shopping. He decided to go fishing and he had to take her along.

"I'll never do that again!" he told his mother that evening. "I didn't catch a thing!"

"Oh, next time I'm sure she'll be quiet and not scare the fish away," his mother said.

The boy said, "It wasn't that. She ate all the bait."

Come Down, O Love Divine

Text by Bianco of Siena (d. 1434)

Translated by Richard F. Littledale, 1867
(1833-1890)

Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1906
(12 Oct 1872 - 26 Aug 1958)

1. Come down, O Love divine,
seek thou this soul of mine,
and visit it with thine own ardor glowing;
O Comforter, draw near,
within my heart appear,
and kindle it, thy holy flame bestowing.

2. O let it freely burn,
till earthly passions turn
to dust and ashes in its heat consuming;
and let thy glorious light
shine ever on my sight,
and clothe me round, the while my path illuming.

3. And so the yearning strong,
with which the soul will long,
shall far outpass the power of human telling;
for none can guess its grace,
till Love create a place
wherein the Holy Spirit makes a dwelling.
