Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   The sad news continues to arrive.  Lizzie Berry Powell, mother of Linda Powell Mynar ('66) of CO, passed away in Grand Junction, CO on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the age of 89.

   From the Head Cheerleader of 1958, Evelyn Fryer Fish of TX - 05/10/08:

Carol,

Wanted to let you know that Lizzie Powell of Stuart Gardens died this morning in Grand Junction, CO, where her daughter Linda Powell Mynar ('66) lives.  Linda has been taking care of her mom for the past 5 years.  Lizzie is also the mother of our dear friend    Beverly Powell Roberts ('57) who also passed away.  Lizzie would have turned 90 in February.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty Powell. She was so much a part of our lives:    Evelyn Casey Snead ('57 - of VA), Harry Veazey ('56),   Bucky (Keller - '58),  Thelma (Spade Roberts - '57), Bo ('56) and Wimpy Roberts, I, and many others hung out at her house through our teens.  We loved her for putting up with all of us.  And we are all left with Wonderful Memories.

   Evelyn, I'm so sorry to hear this, but thank you for letting us know.  Please accept our sincerest sympathies upon the loss of your friend.

Lead, Kindly Light

- Lyrics by John Henry Newman, 1833 and music by John B. Dykes, 1865.

Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.

I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou
Shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!

So long Thy power hath blessed me, sure it will,
Will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile!

Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Savior, lead me home in childlike faith,
Home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life.
