It Could Happen to You

“This was love at first sight, love everlasting: a feeling unknown, unhoped for,
unexpected--in so far as it could be a matter of conscious awareness; it took entire
possession of him, and he understood, with joyous amazement, that this was for life.

-
Thomas Mann
(06 June 1875 - 12 Aug 1955)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Apparently no midi file for today's theme song exists. I really have no way of checking if that's true, but I believe it is.

"It Could Happen to You" is a popular standard with music by Jimmy Van Heusen and lyrics by Johnny Burke. The song was written in 1944 and was introduced by Dorothy Lamour in the Paramount musical comedy film, And the Angels Sing.[1]

A recording by Jo Stafford was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 158. It reached the Billboard magazine Best Seller chart on September 21, 1944 at #10, its only week on the chart.[2]

The Dexter Gordon composition, "Fried Bananas," is based on the changes of "It Could Happen to You."

PRAYER REQUESTS:

From Butch Ragland ('63) of CO - 05/07/16, 3:52 PM:

This is in response to several private emails concerning my recent health problems. Yes, I am being treated for Congestive Heart Failure and hopefully will see a decrease of the pressure around my heart due to the heavy fluid buildup. Have been in fair shape since my 5 way Heart Bypass Surgery in 2001, but guess my age and loss of left leg have made me more susceptible to my current heart problems. Anyway, I would appreciate your continued prayers over the next few months with confidence our Lord with help me through this period of ill health! Again, thanks to each of you for your prayers and support!

From Lisa Dye of TX, Daughter of     Glenn Dye ('60) of TX - 05/09/16, 2:59 PM:

His health has been going down. He has not been eating for several weeks. The doctor did give him an appetite stimulate on Thursday. He is eating a few bites but not really much. He cannot stand or get out of bed. Prayers are very much appreciated. Thanks.

We are so sorry to learn of these most recent health concerns, Butch and Lisa, and will certainly continue our prayers on behalf of all concerned!

From My Friend, Susan, of NC - 05/07/15:

At times there appears to be no light at the tunnel’s end, no dawn to break the night’s darkness. We feel surrounded by the pain of broken hearts, the disappointment of shattered dreams, and the despair of vanished hopes. We join in uttering the biblical plea, “Is there no balm in Gilead?” (Jeremiah 8:22). We are inclined to view our own personal misfortunes through the distorted prism of pessimism... We feel abandoned, heartbroken, alone. If you find yourself in such a situation, I plead with you to turn to our Heavenly Father in faith. He will lift you and guide you. He will not always take your afflictions from you, but He will comfort and lead you with love through whatever storm you face.

It Could Happen to You

Music by Jimmy Van Heusen (26 Jan 1913 – 06 Feb 1990)

Lyrics by Johnny Burke (03 Oct 1908 - 25 Feb 1964)

Hide your heart from sight, lock your dreams at night
It could happen to you
Don't count stars or you might stumble
Someone drops a sigh and down you tumble

Keep an eye on spring, run when church bells ring
It could happen to you
All I did was wonder how your arms would be
And it happened to me

Keep an eye on spring, run when church bells ring
It could happen to you
All I did was wonder how your arms would be
And it happened to me
