VIRGINIA BEACH - Sidney Soltz, 83, most recently of 845 First Colonial Road, died May 2, 2007, after a long illness. Sidney was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Newport News and was the son of the late Solomon and Esther Garelick Soltz. He was a 1941 graduate of Newport News High School, where he played varsity football. Drafted after Pearl Harbor, he served in the Army in Europe, where he was wounded during the German bombing of England. Returning home, in 1945 he enrolled in the College of William and Mary, where he graduated in 1949. In 1948, he married the late Sylvia Shure of Norfolk. Throughout his career he has been an accountant working first in civil service, then private industry and for the past 35 years operating his own accounting practice. He was a member of Temple Beth Chaverim. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by wife, Sylvia; brothers, Ben, Henry and Joseph. Sidney is survived by daughter, Libby (Steven) Schnaier; son, Rabbi Ned (Mary) Soltz; grandchildren, Danny and Michelle Schnaier and Sarah Soltz. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. There will be no local Shiva. Memorial donations may be directed to Temple Beth Chaverim or the charity of your choice.
