of sweet days and roses,
A box where sweets compacted lie.”

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

May Day goodies were included in last year's edition, so I won't repeat them here:

A big Happy May Day Birthday to the everlastingly beautiful    Evelyn Fryer Fish ('58) of TX!

And Happy Birthday tomorrow to   Billy Turner ('65) of TX!

On Thursday, another one of my classmates,   Pauline Collins Shofner ('65) of VA, will also be celebrating that same Major Birthday!

And Happy Birthday wishes on Saturday to    Susie Overton Jones' ('63) husband, Tom Jones (WHS - '60) of AL!

Many Happy Returns, One and All!

A May Day Surprise! February Fling

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 02/25/07 - "Class of 1966 February Fling":

I am bummed. Most likely due to people motion and lotsa glass windows ... my camera had some serious focus problems last night. All but one image was blurred and smeared.

Here is the best one:

I cannot ID everybody, but I know a few. Sitting at the table in the center in blue is Mary Frances Southall Waller (66). To her left is Gail Latta Pearce (64). Behind Gail in blue is Dee Hodges Bartram (66). Just to right of center, sitting under the picture with camera in hand is Dee's husband, Larry. To his left, standing with back to camera is Dave Arnold (65). Standing with him is Mike Artman (66).

And I can recognize Mike Jeffers ('61) sitting down at that table even after forty-eleven years have passed!

Here are the remainder of the images. Some were meant to comprise a panorama shot.  Very psychedelic, doncha think?

"Psychedelic"?!?  Well, yes, they are! (Reunions are always very surreal anyway.)  And unless I'm hallucinating, I think I can spot Karen Richardson ('66) and Richard Marshall ('66), and Ed Tolotti ('66) and Bob Cook ('67) and Anita Morgan Becker ('66) and.....

#909 #911 #912
  WOO-WOO!!!  This one's a true work
of High Art!  I really love it!
#913 #914 #915
#916 #917 #918
Above in the black & white checked shirt is Butch Kypriandes (66).   HEY!  This is great!  There's a ghost rubbing Mike's tummy!

Thank you, Captain! It's always fun to see old friends again!

Hmmm.  I was just getting ready to create a new page for these images, plus the ones    Dee Hodges Bartram ('66) of VA sent me as well, but I can't seem to concentrate at the moment, so I'll do that very soon.  When I do, you'll be able to find them somewhere in here:

From Janice McCain Rose ('65) of VA - 04/30/07 - "Cannes Film Festival & my son's movie":

To all my email buddies.....I have the greatest news....
Remember back last Spring when Blake, my youngest son and his friends made a short film for the 48 Hour Film Festival in Washington, DC (different 48 hour movie projects are held all over the country)         ..
...and they won!!!!...
..WELL.....their film is being shown at the Cannes Film Festival May 16 - 26.... see info below:
The Short Film Corner runs the entire length of the Cannes Film Festival, May 16-26.
At the Short Film Corner there are supposed to be 20+ viewing stations—where anyone can call up any of the registered short films to watch.    This is the first time that the 48HFP is part of the Cannes Festival.
The big day is Thursday, May 17.
All of the  films will screen in a small theater  from 1:30-3:30 p.m.  The 48 Hour Film Project is hosting a Happy Hour/Reception that day at the Short Film Corner.
As you may or may not know, the  Cannes Film Festival is a big shing-ding for movie makers, stars, producers, directors, etc.  ....and it's held in France each year....and a lot of movies or their makers, are "discovered".....
In case you might not have seen their movie....... here is the link:
Their movie, OWENSVILLE , won the following catagories in the DC area:
Best of DC

Audience Award Winner: Group C
"Owensville," by Shaolin Monkeys

Best Writing
"Owensville," by Shaolin Monkeys

Best Cinematography
"Owensville," by Shaolin Monkeys

Best Directing
"Owensville," by Shaolin Monkeys

This is such an honor....and all the people who worked on the film are thrilled beyond belief......and needless to say, we're so proud of Blake and his friends and what they have achieved.

That's amazing!!!  Congratulations all around, Janice - and Best Wishes to Blake and his friends!

From My Niece, Shari, of VA - 04/30/07 - "USEFUL SITES & STRANGE NEWS":

Hoping your Tuesday is super nice,

**** Same Topic - (HOW TO DRY FLOWERS), but 2 different sites.****

How to dry flowers that will keep. This is a great time of year to get this info.
This site gives out a variety of ways to dry not only flowers, but foliage, as well.
How to dry flowers that will keep.

Great site! Natural cures for common germs and diseases, and so much more. If you go to the bottom of
the page it gives other great tips for household, cooking, beauty, etc. It even has really good tips for pets.
I had never heard of the dime cure for nosebleeds, but sure could  have used it for all 3 of my kids, when they were little.
This is a site that should have some tips that everyone should find useful.

   WOWZERONI!!!  This is fabulous!

This goes with along with the strange topic. What top celebrities would look like bald. Glad for them, that it's just PhotoShop.
Funny how some men look nice with no hair, but not so with women.

(A warning from Bizarre News.. I didn't see on Snopes; however, fumes from new carpeting are harmful, so it makes a lot of sense.)
New car smell is bad for you

BERKELEY, Calif. - That "new car smell" can be hazardous to your health, The Ecology Center, a Berkeley, Calif., environmental group said. The Ecology Center said toxic chemicals such as bromine, chlorine and lead found in cars' interiors give off harmful fumes for three years, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The group listed the 10 least toxic vehicles in a report: the Acura RDX; BMW X3; Chevrolet Cobalt; Chrysler PT Cruiser; Honda Odyssey; Nissan Frontier; Suzuki Aerio wagon; Toyota Matrix; and Volvo S40 and V50. The 10 worst vehicles were: the Chevy Aveo, Express and Silverado; Hyundai Accent; Kio Rio and Spectra; Nissan Versa; Scion xB; Subaru Forester; and Suzuki Forenza.

Jeff Gearhart of the Ecology Center said consumers can avoid the fumes, which are emitted when the car's interior is exposed to heat. "Don't park in the sun, and if you do, use a solar screen along the windshield to reduce heat getting into the cabin. And before driving on a warm day, first open the windows and doors to ventilate the car for 10 minutes," Gearhart told the newspaper. "Also, clean the cabin frequently by vacuuming and washing the windows because the greasy film on the inside windows is residue from the chemicals."

   Thanks, Shari!

Karrin Williams Frankie (Warwick HS - '61) of VA:

Take care, Fred Mays

WOWZERONI!!!     Eleanor (Buckley Nowitzky - '59 - of NC) and    Adrienne (Harty - Hillsboro High, IL/American School, IL - of NC) and    I ('65 - of NC) had been planning for months to come "visit the Queen", but now that won't be possible.  I didn't even know they were having festivities in downtown Newport News as well!  I'm impressed!

I Made a May Basket

(Original Author Unknown)

A-tisket, A-tasket
I made a may basket
I filled it up with flowers bright
and hung it on the door just right
A-tisket, A-tasket
I made a may basket
Flowers are a sign of spring
And all the joy that it can bring.
