Crying in the Rain

“There is no greater sorrow than to recall
in misery the time when we were happy.”

- Dante Alighieri
(May/June c.1265 - 14 Sept 1321)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

After all the rain, thunderstorms, and flooding in recent days, there are a great many people crying in the rain.

BONUS #2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOoyr02vFSs - Crying in the Rain - a-ha, 1990

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crying_in_the_Rain:

"Crying in the Rain" is a song written by Howard Greenfield and Carole King and was originally recorded by The Everly Brothers. The single peaked at #6 on the U.S. pop charts[1].

In 1990, the Norwegian pop band A-ha covered the song. Following its success, A-ha became closer to the Everly Brothers, who had originally recorded the song. The band members were presented a set of guitars by the Everly Brothers that A-ha continues to use.

From Frances Heath Scott ('62) of VA - 04/29/13 - "The Villages":

Hi Carol,

In reference to
Don's (Chaney - '66 of MD - soon to be FL) question regarding Typhoons living in The Villages....I think half of the inhabitants down there are from here! The obvious ones to me are my sister- in- law,   JoAnn Scott Fowler ( '58), and her husband,   Bobby Fowler ( '56). They absolutely love it. Both are extremely active in the community and have been since moving down there about 1999/2000. George (Biddy) Whitehurst ('62) and his wife also live down there. As I said, there are numerous others, but at 1:00 a.m., I am blank!

Great seeing you and your husband at our awesome 50th reunion! Thanks for continuing to keep all of us connected and informed! I struggle just to send a few e-mails. The 'puter is definitely NOT my forte! Give me an old fashioned phone!

Fran Heath Scott '62

GIGGLES! Thank you, Fran! I knew there were quite a few, but Bobby Fowler was the only one I could remember - and if I ever knew he was married to your sister-in-law (okay, I "prolly" did), I had long since forgotten it!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 04/29/13 - "The Villages":

Hi, Carol:

In response to the prodding in your Newsletter regarding the upcoming relocation planned by
Don Chaney ('66) of MD, he will find several TYPHOON living in The Villages.

Classmate, Hilton Henderson ('57) of FL and    Bobby Fowler ('56) of FL reside there. The area is still expanding, with a new section that has a theme of the cattlemen that settled in Florida.

It has the flavor of "Florida Crackers" in the Main Street shops, and features a cattle drive at the entrance, with fine statutes of a cattleman herding the cattle across a stream.
Eva (Ellis Madagan - '61) took some photo images, and I will ask her to send you a couple.

Bobby Fowler is still singing, and is part of a quartet that entertains at some of the social functions at The Villages. Never boring there!!! Bet your dear sister (
The Best Dressed Girl in the Class of 1959, Eleanor Buckley Nowitzky of NC) will recall Bobby Fowler from Chorus.

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

Thanks so much, Adonis - I knew you would know!

Eleanor and I both remember Bobby!

Wait a minute - "cattlemen that settled in Florida"?!? That I did not know!

From My Friend, Susan, of NC - 04/29/13 - "Easiest Pecan Bars 'EVER' ":

  Easiest Pecan Bars "EVER"

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent rolls
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 Tbsp. butter, melted
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, beaten

Heat oven to 350°F.
Unroll dough and press in bottom and 1/2 inch up sides of a 9x13-inch pan. Firmly press perforations to seal. Bake 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, in medium bowl, mix remaining ingredients. Pour filling over partially baked crust.
Bake 18 to 22 minutes longer or until golden brown.
Cool completely, about 1 hour, and cut into bars.

YUMMY! Thank you for sharing this, Susan!

From Ruth Reece Horace ('67) of FL - 04/08/13 - "Pets make you smile, ya gotta love em' (#16 of 36)":

Some of them may take a bit of extra effort, but it will be worth it when you can cuddle up in front of a good movie with some delicious eats while you wait for the sun to come out again."

FINALLY:

From  www.ajokeaday.com - 04/29/11:

Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "why is the bride dressed in white?"

"Because white is the color of happiness," her mother explained. "And today is the happiest day in her life."

The child thought about this for a moment. "So why is the groom wearing black?"

Crying in the Rain

Written by Howard Greenfield (15 Mar 1936 – 04 Mar 1986) and Carole King (b. 09 Feb 1942)

Recorded by The Everly Brothers, 1962

Recorded by a-ha, 1990

I'll never let you see
The way this broken heart is hurting me
I've got my pride
And I know how to hide
All the sorrow and pain
I'll do my crying in the rain

If I wait for cloudy skies
You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
You'll never know
That I still love you so
Though the heartaches remain
I'll do my crying in the rain

Raindrops falling from Heaven
Could never wash away my misery
Since we're not together
I pray for stormy weather
Raindrops falling from Heaven
Could never wash away my misery
Since we're not together
I pray for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you never see

Some day when my crying's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool
But 'til then darling you'll
Never see me complain
I'll do my crying in the rain
To hide these tears I hope you never see

Some day when my crying's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool
But 'til then darling you'll
Never see me complain
I'll do my crying in the rain

Raindrops falling from Heaven
Could never wash away my misery
Since we're not together
I pray for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you never see

Some day when my crying's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool
But 'til then darling you'll
Never see me complain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain

I'll do my crying in the... rain
