Mission: Impossible. I'm beginning to think that's the right phrase for my trying to catch up with myself.....

Schifrin was born Boris Claudio Schifrin in Buenos Aires.^[1] His father, Luis Schifrin, led the second violin section of the orchestra at the Teatro Colón for three decades. At the age of six, Schifrin began a six-year course of study on piano with Enrique Barenboim, the father of the pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim. At age 16, Schifrin began studying piano with the Russian expatriate Andreas Karalis, former head of the Kiev Conservatory, and harmony with Argentine composer Juan-Carlos Paz. During this time, Schifrin also became interested in jazz.....

One of Schifrin's most recognizable and enduring compositions is the theme music for the long-running TV series Mission: Impossible. It is a distinctive tune written in the uncommon 5/4 time signature.

Pop Lamkin, especially Chandler Nelms (Hampton HS - '63 - of MD) as Chandler worked at the Varsity Shop in high school. Many folks knew Pop and it is with sadness I pass this on to you and to those who knew a great guy.

Thank you so much for pointing this out to me, F.A. I read this obituary thinking how familiar the name seemed to me, but caught the Hampton High reference, and thought it must not apply. The character of the man shone through, but I somehow missed the mention of the Varsity Shop and its significance altogether. My condolences to you and all those who knew and loved him.

One Sentence

There are so many people who are miserable in this world.

You can't help but feel sorry for these people, for you look at them and see hopelessness. Some people put on a front that they're happy, and really they are sad.

I used to be one of those people.

It's funny that some people can be totally obsessed with movie stars and celebrities. People think you're crazy, but sometimes you can't help but be crazy about these people.

As funny as it sounds to have a singer for an idol, mine is Janet Jackson. The reason for this is that she once said,

"There's nothing more depressing than having everything, and still feeling sad."

When I heard her say this I couldn't help but look at my life and wonder.

As I said, so many people are miserable, and I was one of them.

I had everything I could possibly want, and I was still miserable.

I had such horrible relationships with my friends and family; the things I had didn't matter.

So, every time I hear people make fun of someone for who their idol is. I can't help feeling grateful for the person who does have an idol, because they have someone to learn from and to help them grow.

It's funny how just one sentence can change your life.

I know one sentence changed mine.
