Jeanette Fowler Barrett
(04 Jan 1942 - 22 Apr 2017)

Newport News High School Class of 1960

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

We have yet another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.   Jeanette Fowler Barrett, Class of 1960, wife of Wayne Barrett (Warwick HS - '61) of VA, and sister of the late Billy Fowler ('61), passed away at Sanders Heron Cove in Gloucester on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the age of 75.

From Fred Mays ('60) of VA - 04/26/16, 10:30 AM - "Death of Classmate":

Hi Carol:

I am getting ready to go to Jesse Kersey’s ('58) funeral and thought I would shoot an email to you regarding the death of a classmate.

It is in the Daily Press today, Wed., 04/26 that
Jeanette Fowler Barrett passed away. She was in my class, class of 1960. She had a brother, Billy, class of 1961; he graduated with my wife Patty (Andrews). He predeceased Jeanette.

Jeanette was a nice girl and I recall that I was in the 4th grade with her at Walter Reed, the one year I went there. She sat directly behind me and beside Mary Frances Koskinas. Jeanette’s funeral is private, per the newspaper.

Take care my friend and keep up the good work.

Best Regards, Fred Mays, ‘60

Thank you so much, Fred. With my great gift for denial, I would have missed this, as I didn't know Jeanette. I read her obituary and thought it must surely be another family of Fowler's, as I had no idea that Billy (whom I remember so well from Band) had died, nor have I been able to locate an obituary for him. You and Patty have my sympathies on the passing of your classmates.

Jeanette, my Godmother and my mother's most precious best friend in the world. You will be truly missed. I know my mother's heart is broken because you are no longer here to laugh with, cry with, talk with and support each other and really? now who is going to remind her that "The Bachelorette" is coming on! You always made me feel special when I was around you growing up and as an adult. You'll never know how much it meant when you would say, "How are you, baby girl?" So many memories. To Wayne, Robin, Kim and family, I wish you beautiful memories of her and peace. I know you could feel every day, how much she loved you all. That was just the kind of person I remember her to be. I love you all, always.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. We are so very sorry for the passing of Jeanette. It seems such a short time ago that we were together at Blue Light enjoying dancing and good music. Bill and Darlene Zehrbach

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jeanette. Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of me and your fellow classmates of WHS Class of '61! Love you, buddy!

Dear Wayne,
Please accept my condolences. I once saw a card that told of a ship leaving the shore with family and friends sadly saying "There she goes." At the opposite shore were loved ones from the past joyfully saying, "Here she comes."

Wayne and Family, I am so very sorry to hear of Jeanette's passing. Since I left Fox Auto I haven't been in touch as much as I wish I had been. I always enjoyed talking with Jeanette on the phone and seeing her when they would come in for repairs. RIP, Jeanette. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
