    Here is the sad news that we announced last night.

Good morning!
 
It seems the bad news never stops.
 
Bill Barnes, a member of the class of 1963, passed away Sunday, April 22.  An obituary for Bill should be in The Daily Press on Tuesday.
 
I have been in contact with his ex-wife   Barbara Fritsche Barnes ('63 - of VA) today, and there will be a celebration of Bill's life on Saturday, in Virginia Beach at the home.
 
Thank you for posting this, and for all the hard work you do to keep everyone informed of happenings.

          Dr. William Robert "Bill" Barnes

  VIRGINIA BEACH - Dr. William Robert "Bill" Barnes passed away on April 22, 2007, at Sentara Bayside Hospital in Virginia Beach after a lengthy illness. He was 62 years old. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lemuel "Beany" Barnes and Elizabeth McCann Barnes, both of Hampton. A 1963 graduate of Newport News High School, Dr. Barnes received his B.A. from Old Dominion University and his master's and Ph.D. in Behavioral Psychology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Barnes retired in 2001 as Chief Psychologist of Rideau Regional Center in Smiths Falls, Ontario, following at 27-year career there. He is survived by two amazing children, Jason "Bo" Barnes and his wife, Tess, of Virginia Beach, and Bronwyn "Weezer" Barnes of New York City, his longtime friend, Barb Barnes; his grandson and "best buddy", Zachary William Barnes; his granddaughter, Myla Anne "Missy Myla" Barnes; his sister, Katharine Ann Barnes Dutton, of Temple, Texas; and numerous friends. The family wishes to extend its appreciation to Scott, Eric and other staff of the Sentara Wellness Center and fellow members of the Wednesday exercise class for their support. Also, Dr. William Cooper for many years of outstanding care, Dr. Jeffrey Holladay, Dr. George Grayson, Jackie, Lee, Jason, Marlene, Barbara and the many other Sentara Bayside health care staff for tons of TLC during Dr. Barnes' recent illness. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at his residence, 848 Romney Lane, Va. Beach. Donations may be made to The American Lung Association, ODU football program development or Kellam High School Drama Department.

Bill, you accomplished much in your professional life and your private life was equally successful as evidenced by the number of friends you have.
It is always sad to loose someone we love but we are all better off for having known Bill.

What a treasure you are to produce this newsletter.  I cried when I saw the tribute to    Bill (Barnes - '63), mostly because of the sadness that surrounds loss of a loved one, but a few tears were because of the touching comments from Bill's friends. Thank you for your amazing give to us all.
