04/23/14 - NNHS Newsletter - The Sweetest Sounds “Sweet is every
sound, |
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
This
1962 song is one of my favorites!
BONUS #1 - The Sweetest Sounds - Andy Williams
BONUS #2 - The Sweetest Sounds - Eydie Gorme
BONUS #3 - The Sweetest Sounds - Barbra Streisand
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sweetest_Sounds_%28song%29:
"The Sweetest Sounds" is a
popular
song, written by
Richard Rodgers (unlike most of his compositions, writing both music
and lyrics) for the
musical
No
Strings, in
1962. It is also used in the film adaption
Cinderella starring
Brandy,
Whitney Houston and
Whoopi Goldberg in 1997.
Barbra Streisand recorded the song for "Barbra
Streisand...And Other Musical Instruments".
Sergio Franchi recorded the song in 1963 on his RCA Victor Red Seal
album Broadway, I Love You.[1]
Ella Fitzgerald's swinging version can be heard on her
Verve Records release "Hello,
Dolly!". The melodic theme appears to have been inspired by an
orchestral figure in the final movement of Johannes Brahms'
Piano Concerto No. 2 (Brahms) (measures 64-80). Andy Williams released a version of the song on his 1964 album, The Great Songs from "My Fair Lady" and Other Broadway Hits. |

Check out this
video. This is why we go to Haiti. |
||
This is a video of a trip three college
friends from Alabama made to Haiti over their spring break this
March. Lydia, the tallest, was in Haiti when we were there in
January. She is truly a delight! She had been there a week, fallen
in love with the children, sponsored one student, coaxed a friend
back home to sponsor another, worked with us to enter and process
500 new books to begin a small library at Repatriote and she gave
our visit such an uplift! Her birthday gift was another flight to
Haiti for spring break. The project was one the three girls
initiated and funded. Thankfully, Lydia's grandmother shared this
video with us.

Written by Richard Rodgers (unlike most of his compositions, writing both music and lyrics) for the musical No Strings, 1962 (28 June 1902 – 30 Dec 1979) The sweetest sounds I'll ever hear Are still inside my head The kindest words I'll ever know, are waiting to be said The most entrancing sight of all, is yet for me to see And the dearest love in all the world Is waiting somewhere for me Is waiting somewhere, somewhere for me The sweetest sounds I'll ever hear Are still inside my head The kindest words I'll ever know, are waiting to be said The most entrancing sight of all, is yet for me to see And the dearest love in all the world Is waiting somewhere for me (waiting somewhere) Is waiting somewhere, somewhere for me The most entrancing sight of all, is yet for me to see And the dearest love in all the world Is waiting somewhere for me Is waiting somewhere, somewhere for me
