Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
We have still another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter this Thursday morning.
Gary Barnes,
Class of 1968, brother of Michael Barnes of VA, passed away in
Newport News on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the age of 59.

NEWPORT NEWS - Gary Wayne Barnes, 59, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, after
a long battle with cancer. He was born in Salisbury, N.C., and had been a Peninsula resident for 46 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Mathews. Survivors include his mother, Catherine L. Barnes of Newport News; one brother, Michael L. Barnes and his wife, Shirley, of Gloucester; one niece, Michelle West of Gloucester; and one grand-niece, Kristin West of Gloucester. He was preceded in death by his father, Ervin L. Barnes. |

A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, in Peninsula Memorial Park with Pastor Garry Ross officiating. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. I
remember Gary from High School. I grew up in
Newmarket ... just down the street from Gary. My
thoughts and prayers are with Gary's family and
friends. He will be missed.

Gary
lived two blocks over from me in Newmarket Village,
attended elementary and high school together, and if
my memory serves me right, he was called "Butch".
Way too young Gary, way too young. May you rest in
peace and your family know peace.

Newmarket neighborhood and Mom is still there( 72nd
Street). We attended the same schools. My sincere
