Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   I was devastated to learn this sad news.   Jennifer Lane DeVorss, Ferguson HS Class of 1989, daughter of my dear friend,     Linda Lane Lane ('64) of VA, and niece of Jay Lane ('68) of VA, passed away in Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, Florida on Sunday, April 03, 2016 at the age of 44.

    From Linda Lane Lane ('64) of VA, 04/03/16, 9:15 PM:

It is with the sadness only a parent can tell you my only daughter, Jennifer Megan Lane DeVorss, died this morning in Brandon Regional Hospital. Jennifer was almost 45 and had been married 20 years this June. She leaves behind her husband Martin, daughter Sarah, and her son Martin Jr.

Please pray for our family at this difficult time.

   Oh, Linda-Linda! I am so very, very sorry! I cannot even imagine how heartbroken you must be! You and your family are in my prayers!

From Stowers Funeral Home - 04/05/16:

                 Jennifer Lane DeVorss

    BRANDON, FLORIDA - As we mourn the passing of a dear Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Niece, and Friend we are reminded of how much Church, Family, Friendships, and the Joy of Music underscored who she was. Jennifer DeVorss shined so brightly in both voice and thespian arts. Her faith, baptism, and un-bounded love for close family and friends both near and far are all reasons she would wish to be remembered in fellowship.

This week, before she travels to her family home in Newport News, Virginia to her final rest, we wish to extend the opportunity for fellowship in her remembrance. An in-formal luncheon "Celebration of Life" gathering will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2016, from 11AM to 1PM in the Fellowship Hall at Bell Shoals Baptist Church located in Brandon, Florida. Food and refreshments are provided. Open to all who wish to take encouragement in Jennifer's life and faith!

From the Daily Press - 04/05/16:

                 Jennifer Lane DeVorss

    NEWPORT NEWS - On the Sunday morning of April 3rd, 2016, Jennifer Megan Lane DeVorss left this life to receive her reward with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Her family and friends were a constant source of joy and love with the support they provided. Her church family in Brandon Florida provided support to Jennifer, her husband Martin Sr. (Bubba), Martin Jr. (Pod) and Sarah.

Jennifer is survived by her parents James P. Lane Sr. and Linda L. Lane; brother James Patrick Lane, Jr. of Williamsburg; uncle and aunt Jay and Deborah Lane of Suffolk and brother-in-law and wife Dr. Pat and Crystal Grayson of Tennessee, other family and a multitude of friends.

Jennifer was a 1989 graduate of Ferguson High School, and later from TNCC and the LPN program.

  She was a former member of the church she was raised in, Noland Memorial United Methodist. Since moving to Florida, she was Baptized at Bell Shoals Baptist Church where she was active in the choir.

Jennifer loved life in both Virginia but found Florida and her family her Heaven on Earth. She became active in the activities of Pod and Sarah and most recently loved being a Band Mom to the Cougar Pride of Dover, Florida.

Visitation will be Saturday April 16, 2016 11 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of her life at 12 Noon in the Chapel officiated by Rev. Chris Deitsch, with the burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. She is being laid to rest next to her precious Mimi.

My most heartfelt sympathy for Jen's family and friends. I went to high school with her in Newport News, Va. In later years we had some good times with a mutual friend hanging out. She had a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh. She had a great time making fun or herself to make people laugh. She recently, in the last 6 months, reached out to me and we reconnected. I am so glad that she did, but wish that we had a chance to visit together. She took such pride in her Husband, Son, and Daughter, and loved her Mom with all of her heart. I know she will be missed by many.

I knew Jennifer from Noland Memorial Methodist Church when we were still in pigtails. My mom taught her piano. I watched "The Wizard of Oz" for the first time with her. We lost touch for a while until High School. We were both in Ferguson High School drama together. She will be missed.

Jennifer and I were literally friends our whole lives. She was born May 8 and I was born August 6. I have so many memories I can hold close to my heart. I feel like I have lost a sister. I know she is singing God's praises in Heaven and watching over us. Bubba Sara and Pod, I am praying for healing and I will see you when you come home.

Love Melissa

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your beloved Jennifer. She and I went to Ferguson together and were in Mrs. Gahan's, of blessed memory, French class. I will always remember her smile, laugh and kindness. We reconnected years later, and she mentioned that she was a nurse, had moved to Florida, was married and had a family. It was so wonderful hearing from her again. Let her memory be a blessing to you. She was a truly remarkable and giving woman.

Sometime, Somewhere

Words by Ophelia G. Adams
Music by Charles D. Tillman

Unanswered yet? The prayer lips have pleaded
In agony of heart these many years?
Does faith begin to fail, is hope departing,
And think you all in vain those falling tears?
Say not the Father hath not heard your prayer;
You shall have your desire, sometime, somewhere,
You shall have your desire, sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Tho' when you first presented
This one petition at the Father's throne,
It seemed you could not wait the time of asking,
So urgent was your heart to make it known.
Tho' years have passed since then, do not despair;
The Lord will answer you, sometime, somewhere,
The Lord will answer you, sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Nay, do not say ungranted;
Perhaps your part is not yet wholly done,
The work began when first your prayer was uttered,
And God will finish what he has begun
If you will keep the incense burning there;
His glory you shall see, sometime, somewhere,
His glory you shall see, sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered;
Her feet were firmly planted on the Rock;
Amid the wildest storm prayer stands undaunted,
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock;
She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer,
And cries, "It shall be done, sometime, somewhere,"
And cries, "It shall be done, sometime, somewhere."
