Dear Friends and Schoolmates, 

   There is even more sad news today.     Hattie Timberlake Southall, mother of   Lucy Southall Propst ('63) of VA and   Mary Frances Southall Waller ('66) of VA, passed away in Mattiponi on Friday, April 04, 2014 at the age of 94.

HAMPTON, VA - Hattie Timberlake Southall, 94, passed away of natural causes on April 4, 2014 in Mattaponi, VA.

She was a native of Plum Point and had lived 46 years in Hampton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Southall.

Hattie is survived by two daughters Lucy S. Propst (John) of Williamsburg and Mary Frances Southall Waller of Newport News. She is also survived by four grandchildren Laura Ogle (Todd), Steven Propst (Erin), Nancy Rilee (Steve) and Adam Waller (Alisha); five great-grandchildren and 32 nieces and nephews.

Hattie had been a member of American Business Women’s Association and of Calvary Baptist Church. She retired as an executive secretary of the Daily Press in 1983.

A funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Monday, April 7th in Calvary Baptist Church, 4700 Huntington Avenue, Newport News, VA. Reverend Dr. Paul Lawson will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to Noon Monday before the service at the church. Interment will follow after the service in Sunny Slope Cemetery, West Point, VA. Hattie was my aunt by marriage for 23 years. She was one of the most gracious people I have ever known. Hattie always made me laugh with her great sense of humor. I am so sorry for her family's loss.

I just learned of Hattie Southall's death from a former reporter at the Daily Press and we exchanged fond memories of the many kindnesses Hattie did for us -- and how good and loyal she was -- to the newspaper, the families, and those whose lived revolved around 7505 Warwick Blvd. for so many years.

Received a text yesterday from Loretta advising me of Hattie's passing and I am so sorry that I did not attend the funeral and spend a few minutes with the family that loved her so much! She knew how blessed she was to have such wonderful children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other loving family members and friends. I can see her in my mind smiling and bagging about her children to my mom. What a blessing to have known her! My sympathies to you and I know she and Ginny are catching up on the happenings since they last talked.
