Hey There

"The pain of love is the pain of being alive.
It is a perpetual wound."

Maureen Duffy
      (b. 21 Oct 1933)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's song is brought to you directly by Rosemary Clooney, who delights in singing it in my ear each night just as I'm trying to fall asleep.  Thanks for the lullabies, Rosie - I think......

You'll notice that this letter is much shorter than the most recent ones have been.  There's a very good reason for that (with which I shall not bore you), but I'll be posting all those other goodies which I once again ripped from this one quite soon.

From Linda May Bond Crayton ('66) of VA - 03/26/06:

Does anyone remember the C&O railroad "company" store? It's where I got my first pair of cowboy boots and a harmonica. Those were root'n toot'n days! I still remember the smell, real leather -everything. There was also something about a cardboard clock with a movable mouth and a great face you got with your shoes. Buster Brown? My dad worked for the railroad for about thirty years. He worked at the 58th Street hump. He tagged cars. He said it never snowed at the railroad. It took me thirty years to figure out he meant because as a six year old kid I remember seeing snow come in on those coal cars. The things we remember......imagine.

GIGGLES!!!  Thanks, Linda May!    I added your memory to the posted thread:

          http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/railway-shipyard.html

I didn't even know there was a company store.  I lived in a Dixie Cup - sorta like I still do, only more so.....

   "Anyone?  Anyone?".

Hey There

Words and Music by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross for "The Pajama Game"

(Rosemary Clooney, 1954)

Hey there
You with the stars in your eyes
Love's never made a fool of you
You used to be too wise.

Hey there
You on that high-flying cloud
Though he won't throw a crumb to you
You think someday he'll come to you.

Better forget him
Him with his nose in the air
He's got you dancing on a string
Break it and he won't care

Won't you take this advice
I hand you like a mother
Or are you not seeing things too clear?
Are you too much in love to hear?
Is it all going in one ear
And out the other?

(repeat last verse)

Hey There! Hey There!
Hey There!.......
