   We have yet another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter this early morning. Chris Christensen, Class of February 1945, has passed away in Newport News at the age of 81.

   Alfred Franklin "Chris" Christensen

NEWPORT NEWS - Alfred 'Chris' Franklin Christensen, 81, passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center on Sunday, March 16, 2008.

A Peninsula resident for 67 years, he graduated in Feb. 1945 from Newport News High School, and was enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired as an engineer with the Newport News Shipyard and Dry Dock Company, after 35 years of service.

Mr. Christensen was preceded in death by his parents, Christen and Vera Christensen and brother, Christen C. Christensen Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine P. Christensen; two daughters, Franci Brice and fiancé, Joe Hamaker of Rockledge, Fla. and Page Zehmer Carmine and husband, Bobby Carmine of Bena, Va.; a son, James Hampton 'Hamp' of the home; his grandson, Willis M. 'Nick' Brice and fiancée, Lisa Cox of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; two sisters, E. Karen Bond (George) and Gail C. Remhert (Colby); two nieces and five nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peninsula S.P.C.A. or a charity of choice.

Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I am sad to learn of Alfred's passing.
I was a close to Chris Jr. when we lived at Buckroe Beach in the 50's. May God bless you in your time of sorrow.
