100 YEARS AGO TODAY:
March 16, 1916 - The 7th and 10th US cavalry regiments under John J. Pershing crossed the US–Mexico border to join the hunt for Pancho Villa. |
THIS DAY IN WWII:
|
THIS DAY IN 1966:
Wednesday, March 16, 1966 - Launch of

From My Friend, Katie, of NC - 03/11/15:
“A useful way to
think about the commandments is they are loving counsel from a wise,
all-knowing Heavenly Father. His goal is our eternal happiness, and His
commandments are the road map He has given us to return to Him, which is
the only way we will be eternally happy.”

BONUS IRISH CROCHET PATTERNS:
http://www.favecrafts.com/Crochet/Crochet-Skirt-from-Naturally-Caron# -
Doris Chan's
Light Green Crochet Skirt
- "This light green crochet skirt is calling your name. This is the perfect
free crochet pattern you should be making for the hot summer season. The yarn is
nice and light so it will keep you cool." -
Well, it's not
calling MY name, but that's probably only because I don't bear much
resemblance to this adorable young model (I think that might be Doris Chan
herself)!

http://www.favecrafts.com/St-Patricks-Day/A-Cute-Shamrock-and-Leprechaun
-
Petra Monaco's
Shamrock and
Leprechaun
- "Using a free crochet St. Patrick's day pattern is great for this
holiday. Get in the spirit and become Irish for a day. This leprechaun and
shamrock are great to hang from the rear view mirror of your car. You might also
want to sew it to a bag or piece of clothing for a nice embellishment." |
BONUS IRISH RECIPES:
http://www.mrfood.com/One-Pots/Skillet-Sausage-n-Cabbage-5132//ml/1
-
Skillet
Sausage 'n' Cabbage
- "What could be better on a cold winter night than a
skillet supper bursting with the hearty flavors of smoked
sausage and cabbage? Oh, it's so comforting!" http://www.mrfood.com/Potatoes-Rice/Irish-Potatoes-6067//ml/1 - Irish Potatoes - "Okay, okay, no self-respecting St. Patrick's Day corned beef would be complete without the crunch and taste of cabbage! Well, we've just made it partners with our mashed potatoes, so now we've got an old favorite that's traditionally called Champs, but it's got a modern twist!" http://www.mrfood.com/Beef/St-Patricks-Day-Special-1096//ml/1 - St. Patrick's Day Special - "Heard of the blue plate special? Well, this meal is the St. Patrick's Day special. And we have it every year in Chicago 'cause we spend every St. Patrick's Day there, marching in the parade and enjoying the great food and festivities!" |
FINALLY:
From http://www.ajokeaday.com - 03/15/15:
A Spanish teacher was explaining
to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as
either masculine or feminine. "House" for instance, is feminine: "la casa." "Pencil," however, is masculine: "el lapiz." A student asked, "What gender is 'computer'?" Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether "computer" should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation. The men's group decided that "computer" should definitely be of the feminine gender ("la computadora") because: 1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic. 2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else. 3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and 4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it. (THIS GETS BETTER!) The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine ("el computador") because: 1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on. 2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves. 3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time, they ARE the problem; and 4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model. The women won. |

Bridgit O’Malley
Oh Bridgit O’Malley, you left my heart shaken
With a hopeless desolation, I’d have you to know
It’s the wonders of admiration your quiet face has taken
And your beauty will haunt me wherever I go.
The white moon above the pale sands, the pale stars above the thorn tree
Are cold beside my darling, but no purer than she
I gaze upon the cold moon till the stars drown in the warm sea
And the bright eyes of my darling are never on me.
My Sunday it is weary, my Sunday it is grey now
My heart is a cold thing, my heart is a stone
All joy is dead within me, my life has gone away now
For another has taken my love for his own.
The day it is approaching when we were to be married
And it’s rather I would die than live only to grieve
Oh meet me, my Darling, e’er the sun sets o’er the barley
And I’ll meet you there on the road to Drumslieve.
Oh Bridgit O’Malley, you’ve left my heart shaken
With a hopeless desolation, I’d have you to know
It’s the wonders of admiration your quiet face has taken
And your beauty will haunt me wherever I go.
