Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms

“You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-
confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair.”

 - Douglas MacArthur
(26 Jan 1880 - 05 Apr 1964)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Moore:

"The song Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms is often used in a famous gag in a number of Warner Brothers cartoons, usually involving a piano or Xylophone rigged to explode when a certain note is played. The hero, typically Bugs Bunny, tries to play the melody line of the song, but always misses the rigged note (C above middle C). The villain or rival, finally exasperated, pushes the hero aside and plays the song himself, striking the correct note and blowing himself up. In one instance, however, the protagonist plays the melody on a xylophone and, upon striking the rigged note, the antagonist explodes in an 'old gag, new twist.' "

Putting on the Ritz ..... in Moscow, done as flashdance, tremendous, enjoy, enjoy!!!!!

This is a bit different and surprising - taking place in Russia. Enjoy !

This dancing was filmed (26 Feb 2012) on Moscow's "overlook" in Sparrow Hills. Looking down from the "overlook" you see the largest stadium in Russia (140K capacity). The ski jump is for practice and training - if you make a mistake, you end up in the river below. The church at the end opposite to the ski jump is Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, and it's beautiful. The large building on the opposite side of the road beside the overlook is the Moscow State University, and the top of the tall center tower has one of the Kremlin stars. Try to not smile as you watch this - you will. It is a nice, gentle clip. "Putting on the Ritz," in Moscow, no less! What a crazy, delightful, ever changing world! Who could have thought that in 2012 young people in Moscow would put on a "flash mob" happening, dancing to an 83-year-old American song, written by a Russian born American Jew. (Irving Berlin) Sound ON! Enjoy.

From My Friend, Holly, of MO - 03/08/15 - "Rice Crispy Treats":

I made the best rice crispy treats:

1. Melt 1-1/2 sticks of butter in large pan.
2. Add 2 bags of marshmallows (mini or regular).
3. When the mixture is melted and well mixed, add 10 cups of cereal and mix together.
4. Add 1 bag of mini marshmallows, mix until evenly distributed, not melted down all of the way.
5. Press into a well greased 13x9 pan and let cool.

Makes 12 huge servings or 24 normal servings
These are so good. They are thick, chewy, and have lots of marshmallowy goodness.

   YUMMY! Thank you, Holly!

Believe Me If All Those Enduring Young Charms

Words by Thomas Moore
(28 May 1779 - 25 Feb 1852)
Melody: Traditional

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms
Which I gaze on so fondly today
Were to change by tomorrow and fleet in my arms
Like fairy gifts fading away.
Thou wouldst still be adored as this moment thou art
Let thy loveliness fade as it will
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart
Would entwine itself verdantly still.

It is not while beauty and youth are thine own
And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear
That the fervor and faith of a soul can be known
To which time will but make thee more dear.
No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets
But as truly loves on to the close
As
the sunflower turns to her God when he sets
The same look which she turned when she rose.
