Oh Jimmy, I'm so sorry to hear this. Thank you so much for letting me know. I read the obituary but failed to connect all the dots. I remember Jeanne from Old Dominion; she was a lovely young woman.

                   Jeanne Wiggins King

WILLIAMSBURG - On Thursday, March 6, 2014, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Jeanne W. King, went home to be with her Father in Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Portsmouth, Va., she was a Williamsburg resident for 16 years where she taught as a teacher in the Williamsburg/James City County School Systems.

A woman of devout faith, Jeanne attended Wellspring United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of Old Dominion University where she earned Masters Degrees in Education and Business. Jeanne had a passion for assisting special needs students with vocational and work force skills and worked as an adjunct faculty member at the College of William and Mary where she focused on teaching work force skills to adults with special needs. She was also an active sponsor of numerous clubs and activities including FBLA and Key Club.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Albert M. and Marion F. Wiggins.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 43 years, Donald V. King; children, Laura K. Manno and Donald V. King, Jr.; and five grandchildren, Kylie King, Alexis King, Lorenzo Manno, Sydney King, and Ashley King.

The family would like to recognize Duke University Cancer Center, the doctors and nurses at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, the staff at Comfort Keepers, as well as friends and family for their care, love, and support during their time of need.

On Tuesday, March 11 a visitation will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a funeral service to take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 12 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Project SEARCH at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center at 100 Sentara Circle, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.  View and post condolences on our online guestbook at

Don and family, I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Jeanne. I first met her at ODU, then ODC; she and I shared many classes and were active in Phi Beta Lambda. After graduation, she went to work at WAVY TV and then decided she wanted to return for her masters and encouraged me to apply for her job--so she was responsible for me getting my first job at WAVY-TV. What a sweet spirit and such a beautiful person. Love to you.

Servant of God, Well Done!

Words by Charles Wesley (28 Dec 1707 - 29 Mar 1788)
Music by
George J. Elvey (27 Mar 1816 - 09 Dec 1893)

(The Methodist Hymnal, 1966, #288)

Wesley wrote this hymn in 1770 on the occasion of the death of clergyman George White.
Elvey's tune, "Diademata", has been set to several other hymns, notably "Crown Him with Many Thorns" and "Soldiers of Christ, Arise".

 Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfare’s past;
The battle’s fought, the race is won,
And thou art crowned at last.

With saints enthroned on high,
Thou dost thy Lord proclaim,
And still to God salvation cry,
Salvation to the Lamb!

O happy, happy soul!
In ecstasies of praise,
Long as eternal ages roll,
Thou seest Thy Savior’s face.

Redeemed from earth and pain,
Ah! when shall we ascend,
And all in Jesus’ presence reign
With our translated friend?
