03/09/06 - NNHS Newsletter - Footloose

And the night shall be filled with music,
And the cares that infest the day
Shall fold their tents like the Arabs
And as silently steal away.

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, The Day Is Done
(27 Feb 1827 - 24 Mar 1882)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

What a great MIDI file this is!     David (Spriggs - '64 - of VA), I always think you can't possibly top yourself in the music files you find for our enjoyment, and then you do it again!  Thanks so much!  My dancing feet thank you as well!

No doubt you all remembered what happened 144 years ago today, right?  That's right, the First Battle of The Ironclads, the Merrimac and the Monitor, was fought right there in the Hampton Roads, right there where we were all raised:

1.    Harmon Gordon ('63) of VA - 03/09/06:

HELLO......

I just was informed about the NNHS website and have enjoyed reading many of the comments from old classmates and friends.

I graduated in 1963 and the fond memories of being a TYPHOON are still with me.  Keep up the good work!!!!!

                                                                   HARMON GORDON

Hi, Harmon!  We're glad to have you with us!  Please feel free to share your memories.  I've added your name to the (usually) hidden mailing lists, as well as to the Alumni List:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/alumni-list.html

From Jerry Blanchard ('62) of VA - 03/08/06 - "Blood Pressure":

Please lady, take care of that BP. We Typhoons can not afford to lose you..

Jerry (62)...

The timing does seem a bit askew, doesn't it?!?  Thanks, Jerry!  I do appreciate your concern!

As a matter of fact, I had several fun things from several of y'all today - messages, phone calls, notes of encouragement, delightful presents, checks for the web site maintenance - y'all are just the best!  Thank you all so much!

From My #2 Son, Brent Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - '90) of IL - 03/09/06:

Brent

WOWZERONI!!!  This is nothing short of magnificent!  Thanks so much, Brent!

From Jennie Sheppard ('62) of NC - 03/08/06:

Believe me it was my pleasure.  I'll keep you all updated on the activities of the center.  I just received a phone call from Fred Willard, Director of the Lost Colony Center for Science and Research.  He invited me to participate in a field trip this week-end, but I won't be able to make this one.  More about the one I did participate in later.

Jennie

Thanks, Jennie!  We'll look forward to it!

From Fred Mays ('60) of VA - 03/08/06:

Miss Carol.

I just love so much reading your website.  I really appreciate getting in touch with   Tommie Mouser ('60 - of VA), and this is all thanks to your website and   Jimmy Walker ('62 - of VA).  His brother    Robert, now Bob, graduated with me in 1960

Isn't that just such fun - finding people again after so many years?!?  It's truly a dream come true for me - a nearly impossible dream, really!

I am really enjoying being retired....take care and keep up the great work.

Fred Mays, class of '60

I'm enjoying being retired, too!  No, wait a minute - I never did anything in the first place!!!

   Thanks, Fred!

As I was in the mood for creating those Contact Pages, I made one for the Class of 1961, which is extremely incomplete at the moment, but hopefully we'll have more input on that in the coming weeks as they prepare for their reunion on the first weekend of July:

Footloose

(Kenny Loggins, 1984)

I been working so hard
Keep punching my card
Eight hours, for what?
Oh, tell me what I got
I get this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
Tonight I gotta cut
(Chorus)
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me offa my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon before we crack
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
You're playing so cool
Obeying every rule
Dig way down in your heart
You're yearning, burning for some
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by
I'm trying to tell you
It will if you don't even try
You can fly if you'd only cut
(Chorus)
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Oowhee, Marie
Shake it, shake it for me
Whoa, Milo
C'mon, c'mon let go
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
FIRST - we got to turn you around
SECOND - You put your feet on the ground
THIRD - Now take a hold of your soul
FOUR - Whooooooooa, I'm turning it
Loose, FOOTLOOSE
(Chorus)
