Shirley was my next door neighbor for a number of years, and I have never met a sweeter lady in all of my life. My family helped her out whenever they could during her final years, whatever we could do to make her as comfortable as possible. She will be missed, and never forgotten. |

I am so sorry to hear of Shirley's death. I extend my deepest sympathy to the family at this time. I knew Shirley through our nursing school days at Riverside. I saw her some years ago at an alumni dinner and we had the best time visiting and reminiscing. She was a delightful person, joyful and loved people. |

Bernie and Joe, I am not sure if you remember me or not, but my grandmother (Esther Aaronson) and your mom were really good friends. My Aunt Sylvia called my mom and told her about your mom, and I just wanted to let you know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers. |

To
Shirley's Family, Shirley & I went all through high school together and we always had a lot of laughs together, I will always remember her as being a good friend. I would see her in the stores sometimes thru the years and it was always like we had not missed a day talking together. I've missed seeing her the past few years. You had a wonderful sweet lady as your mother and I know she will be missed by so many. My thoughts & prayers are with you all. |

I am so sorry to read of your Mom's death. When we were young, Shirley was such a nice girl, always perky, smiling, full of fun, and easy for all of us to get to know and appreciate. I regret that I haven’t seen her since we graduated from NNHS. What a loss that is! May she rest in eternal peace. |

I didn't really know Shirley, but I do remember her from high school. I can't recall ever seeing her without a smile on her face, and always bustling about, anxiously engaged in some good cause.
Our sincerest sympathies are extended to her family and friends.
I don’t
know the real reason why -- unless I’m that age, but reading the obituary of my
classmate
SHIRLEY MARKOFF KLEIN
(’61, Va.), seems to touched a nerve in me. She was such a nice girl,
always alive, smiling, full of fun, and easy for all of us to get to know and
appreciate. I’ve not written a condolence to her family because the context is
difficult for me. We were brothers and sisters during school days and I haven’t
seen her since probably June 1961. What a loss that is! She became the quality
adult she was as an elementary and high schooler. As our lives went in different
directions, we lost the bonds forged in the class rooms in Newport News.
Let me just say that I remember what a great girl Shirley was as we met in the hallways of NNHS, the classrooms, the gymnasium and Saunders Stadium as “Newport born and Newport bred …. “ May she rest in eternal peace.
Norm Covert (’61, MD)
